Please take note if you are feeding any type of Puppy Love products there is a risk of salmonella poisoning.

When handling any dog food products, brushing/bathing or any kind of grooming and yes even cleaning up their waste. You should practice best hygiene practices of washing your hands throughly, better yet wash them twice that’s what I do, and remembering have no immune system!

𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: dog food making people/dogs sick

Via Health Canada:

"31 people sick with Salmonella linked to dog food and treats in BC, AB, ON and NWT. Exposure to certain Puppy Love and Puppy World brand dog treats is a likely source for some of the illnesses in this outbreak."

𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟:

Puppy World Lamb Lung treats (120 gram, 340 gram, 545 gram bags)
Puppy Love Chicken Wing Tip treats (120 gram bags)
Puppy Love Chicken Breast treats (120 gram and 300 gram bags)
Puppy Love Beef Chew 6 inch treats (Value pack, four pieces)
Puppy Love “Twisty Jr.” beef treats (Value pack, five pieces)

The investigation is ongoing and additional sources of the outbreak may be identified. This notice will be updated as the investigation evolves.

To reduce your risk of becoming ill from contact with a dog, their food or treats:

Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after handling any type of dog food or treat.
Teach children to wash their hands thoroughly, with soap and water, every time after touching dogs, their food or treats.
Wash and sanitize any containers, utensils and surfaces that have come into contact with dog food or treats before using them again. This includes food and water bowls, countertops, microwaves and refrigerators.

Use dedicated dishes and utensils to serve your dog and wash them separately from other dishes and utensils.
Store all dog food and treats away from where human food is stored or prepared and away from reach of young children. Pick up food and treats containers when your pet is done with them.
Follow storage instructions found on the packaging of dog food and treats, including proper refrigeration and freezing if needed, to prevent them from becoming spoiled.

Read the labels on dog food and treats to learn about the ingredients, the product’s expiry date, and if the food is cooked or raw. Raw pet food and treats may be fresh, frozen, dehydrated or freeze-dried.

Wash your hands after contact with a dog and after handling their waste. People who are infected with Salmonella bacteria can spread Salmonella to other people several days to several weeks after they have become infected, even if they don't have symptoms.

Puppies are so tender, don't over do them.
I have informed many of my clients that we need to train at the pups pace, no your pup can't go for an hours walk at 10 weeks of age, nor can they start agility or other dog sport. However, that said there is a way we do start pups this young to learn bite/protection work. But we do this in a controlled environment.

If you have a new puppy, thinking of getting a puppy, unsure of which breed suits your lifestyle, reach out to me and I'd be honored to help assist you in your journey of having and raising an amazing best friend!

Everyone should see this. This x-ray is of a 2-week-old puppy. When you get your 8- to 10-week-old puppies, remember this image. Their bones don’t even touch yet. They walk around so cutely with their big, floppy paws and wobbly movements because their joints are mostly made of muscle, tendons, and ligaments, covered by skin. Nothing fits tightly together or forms a true socket yet.

If you let them run too much or don’t limit their exercise during this time, you’re not giving them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited, bouncy run makes their bones hit each other. In small amounts, this isn’t a big deal—it’s normal wear and tear for any animal. But when you let your puppy jump up and down from the couch or bed, or take them on long walks or hikes, you’re harming those developing joints. Letting them scramble on tile with no grip also damages the joints.

You only get one chance to help them grow. A strong, healthy body comes from both good breeding and a proper upbringing—not just one or the other. Once they’re fully grown—around 12 to 18 months, depending on the breed—you’ll have plenty of time for more intense play and exercise. But for now, keep things calm while they’re still little, and give them the gift of a healthy body that can only be given once.

Check out these videos of where this current class is at in just 3 weeks.

These 4 amazing pups and their handlers have mastered sit, down, focus, touch, middle, leave it(some better than others but they are young and getting it), heel left, heel right, heel middle and the most important thing they have all master is the RECALL!

One of the important things I like to teach is a release command and recall. And this group was amazing at doing their homework and getting it done.

I’m so proud of each and everyone of you and your pups. 🐾

I have spoken about dogs getting dementia often, here is a repost that contains some great information on the topic.

Dog dementia, also known as canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD), is a progressive brain disorder that affects older dogs. It causes a decline in cognitive abilities, similar to Alzheimer's disease in humans. Here are the symptoms: Confusion and disorientation, Memory loss, Reduced activity levels (sleeping a LOT more), Changes in sleep patterns, Loss of housetraining, Anxiety or aggression ( Intermittent anxiety is expressed through apprehension, panting, moaning or shivering). Staring blankly, Difficulty finding familiar places, Activity changes (which may include decreased activity or increased repetitive activities like walking in circles). Other symptoms include failure to respond to commands (possibly due to hearing loss). “How do you prevent/treat canine dementia?”Here are some steps you can take today to help your dog stay mentally sharp and vibrant well into their golden years.
1. Give 1/4th teaspoon per 10 pounds of MCT oil on your older dog's (7+years) food. This makes a HUGE difference in their cognitive ability. (see below)
2. Give a good vitamin like Nuvet Plus.
3. Daily Exercise Among dogs of the same age, those that were not active were 6.47 times more likely to suffer from canine cognitive dysfunction compared to those that were very active.
4. NuJoint DS to protect their joint health and arthritis.
5. A species-specific (low carb), minimally processed nutritionally balanced diet that is rich in healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) and healthy functional fats that nourish the brain,
6. SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine), which can assist in detoxification and reduce inflammation. For more reading, I'll put Dr. Becker's article below. She also recommends Phosphatidylserine I'm looking for a good source

First day of class and these puppies are already getting some of the best socialization a puppy can get.

Socializing isn’t going to the dog park, it’s teaching your puppy/dog to be comfortable in all situations, and these pups rocked it with the gals from Lakeland Ladykillers Roller Derby League and Roller Haus Roller Skating.

Thanks again ladies for helping these amazing pups conquer fear of helmets, wheels and protective pads!

Please note, these heat warnings are also for your pets!

Please watch for signs of heat stroke in your dogs and other pets. Have lots of cool water on hand and if you believe your dog has heat stroke, apply cool NOT cold water to their paws and inside of their legs. Do not allow them to over drink but to drink smaller amounts more often.
