Brandy is a 7 month old spayed purebred chihuahua. She was given up because she was too active for her elderly owners, but is lots of fun for a playful friend. She is wonderful with other dogs and lived with a cat. This smart girl is crate trained and is working on house training and doing well. She loves people and just wants a family that will give her all the love she needs. She absolutely LOVES other dogs as well.

Meela is a one year old American Bulldog mix that weighs about 35 pounds. She had a rough start as most of our rescues do. She had terrible mange which left her practically bald. Now, she’s fully recovered and healthy. She loves other dogs and is great with people. Such a sweet girl deserves a second chance.

On Sunday, June 8 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM A Forever Home will be at Paws in the Park with adoptable puppies at Frying Pan Park, 2709 West Ox Rd, Herndon. Come to this free, pet-friendly event. To avoid possible bad weather, we will be indoors in the arena. This event is open to everyone, whether you’re looking to adopt, shop, learn, or just enjoy some tail-wagging joy. Our Story

AFH was founded in 2002 by a small group of experienced rescuers. Our goal was to change the idea of rescue from just finding and placing dogs in homes to finding A Forever Home for every dog and pup in need.

We started our rescue with a single foster home, a yard sale, and a personal credit card. We spent countless hours transporting and caring for our dogs; running adoption events and our website. We conducted home checks, vet checks and interviewed adopters for each and every dog. Our rescue takes pride in ensuring that each of our pets receives all medical care needed regardless of costs. We also focus on educating adopters about the needs of their dogs, including medical care, socialization and training.

We have now matured to over 2,000 volunteers who do a variety of jobs - conduct home-checks and interviews, drive transports, run adoption events, hold fundraisers, do community outreach, run our social media and website, foster dogs, and manage our finances and paperwork. Yet, our dedication to "Forever" has never changed. We remain a foster home only rescue and have placed over 17,000 needy pets into loving, forever homes! In addition, over the years we have helped countless rural shelters, transported thousands of homeless pets to safety, provided assistance during major disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, helped reform shelters, and assisted in shutting down puppy mills and hoarding situations.

We are grateful for volunteers, adopters, donors, collaborators and supporters - and welcome you to join our organization! If you have a love of animals and a place in your heart for dogs - come enhance the lives of those left behind and help them find their forever homes. It will enrich your life, too!
