My boy Jackson turns 12 in a few days. Still such a baby. Just under 12 years ago, I responded to an ad posted online requesting help as to how to care for a 3 week old kitten. She liked my response out of everyone else’s and asked if I’d be willing to take him. Within an hour this blue-eyed wobbly tuxie baby that barely fit in my hand showed up in a shoe box (thank you Luz 💕). He was an absolute nutcase of a kitten! Someday I’ll find that video and post it. At just two years old he was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He was vomiting non-stop and losing weight. He had surgery to put in a PEG tube (directly into his stomach) which I fed and medicated him through for 13 weeks until we could find the cocktail of meds that worked and food he would eat. During this time I was living in a studio with 4 cats. I slept on the floor in my narrow kitchen with Jackson every night because he had to stay separated. He’s had lots of ups and downs with the IBD and a myriad of other health issues. His folder at the vet is 2 inches thick. He’s a tough kitty with an in-your-face personality. He has gently welcomed and taught many a rescue kitten over the years. Despite it all, he’s a spunky punkass. ‼️36 KITTENS/CATS DUMPED IN UNDER 2 HOURS AT LOS ANGELES SHELTER‼️ When seasoned, experienced rescuers are at breaking point, this is not ok. This is a crisis too big to ignore and as a society, we need to take a long hard look at ourselves. Where’s our accountability? Our compassion? Where are the elected officials who should be doing something about this??? Carina @queenofheartsrescue spent just under 2hrs at #carsonshelter yesterday and in that time witnessed the dumping (surrender) of some 36 cats (mostly kittens). Despite her pleas and best efforts to educate the harsh reality of what would likely become of those innocent little lives, the response was always the same: nobody cared. Not the two school teachers dumping the litter they’d found in their schoolyard (god help our future generations). Not the woman dumping one litter of kittens with two more pregnant cats at home. She was bringing those babies in too, once they were born. Certainly not the asshole who abandoned the newborn baby, umbilical cord still attached. Nope, nobody cared. The lives of all those precious animals, inconsequential and meaningless. I’m not being dramatic when I tell you it broke Carina to leave that awful place yesterday with only two kittens in hand: the one she’d planned to rescue and one other teeny nugget that she intercepted, sickly and destined for a quick demise, before she was formally surrendered. Carson shelter doesn’t get a lot of exposure. This is just A SINGLE DAY. Please help make this story go viral. Please make people take notice. This cannot continue. Not at Carson, not anywhere. This is a #nationaldisgrace. If you ever wanted to make a difference, do it now. Share, contact local government officials, media, filmmakers, whoever you think can influence positive change. We met this woman today at the South LA shelter. She was crying. She has had her dog 11 years. He is her best friend. She lives alone and does not have children. Eleven years. Her doctor made him an ESA dog.
Four times a week she walks from her home to Food for Less at 1850 W Slauson, LA. Her dog waits with his vest, collar and leash with her basket near security. Yesterday (1-25-18) a hispanic woman picked him up, took his collar and vest off and stole him. Ms Gibson requested we not post his name. Any tips or sightings or if you see him in a shelter please let us know. He takes medicine daily and she is so worried. Male, Jack Russell, brown/white!
