Speaking of canines, please be mindful when taking your canines out for walks while the temperatures are getting well into the 90s. Pavement heats up quickly. This can cause burns to the paw pads of your dogs.

A good trick to check if the pavement is too hot or not is to take your bare hand and put it on the pavement. If you can keep your hand on the pavement for 10 seconds or longer, it is cool enough for your canine. If not, then it is too hot. Just a friendly reminder!

With temperatures getting into the 90s this weekend and next week, Sandy Springs Police wants to remind everyone not to leave your pets in the vehicle. Cracking your windows does not allow for enough air flow to keep the vehicle cool.

Think twice before deciding to take your pets with you. If you do, make sure when you have to stop that the business allows you to take your pet with you inside. Serve this also as a reminder not to leave your pet, in your running vehicle, unattended.
