REHOMED - Meet Patch, she is an 18yr old terrier girl who is looking for a quiet retirement home within reasonable travelling distance of Market Harborough, Leics. She is microchipped, flea and worm treated. She is deaf and has some changes to her vision but she can see to get around. Her teeth and general health are good for her age.

She has had a single small seizure since being with us which we understand she has been having for a few years but they are idiopathic (no obvious cause) and dont require any medication and are infrequent and short.

Patch's story as to how she came to be with us is sad. She was found wandering along the roadside and picked up by the police who called the dog warden and she ended up in the local pound. An owner was located, a very elderly farmer. You would have thought he would have been overjoyed at finding his little elderly companion of all these years but instead he refused to pay the council stray fees (or to let any of his family pay too!) and told the warden that they could pick up the vet bills and to put poor Patch to sleep and he would have her ashes back! Poor little Patch, she meant so little after so many years of being a faithful friend.

Patch was understandably confused when she arrived with us but after a couple of days she really settled in well and eventually started to enjoy some of the home comforts that she clearly hadnt been used to. Being a farm dog she has spent her days pottering around the farm pretty much doing her own thing and sleeping wherever she found a dry place, her coat was very overgrown and smelly and her skin was dry and inflamed in places but aside from that she is actually a fit little dog for her advanced years. Having spent most of her time with free access to the outdoors she does have accidents in the home so new owners would need to be prepared for this.

Patch absolutely loves her walks and is still incredibly sprightly given she is 126 in human years! she trots along and even has the odd zoomy in the house. So she will need a new home with someone who can get her out for a nice potter a couple of times a day and has a nice enclosed garden for her to use as she loves to spend lots of time out there.

Patch is ok with other dogs and has lived with others in the past, there are quite a few dogs in her foster home and she get get a bit overwhelmed and takes herself off so a quieter home with just one other calm dog would suit her. We are told she is good with cats and wouldn't be suited to a home with resident children under 12yrs

Patch gets a bit stressed in the car so we are looking for a home within reasonable travelling distance of Market Harborough. Suitable home offers are subject to homecheck and voluntary adoption donation (the right home is more important to us). She does show some signs of cognitive changes (pacing/staring) and some arthritis and we have her on various supplements to support her which would come with her.

So if you are an experienced senior dog owner, have a nice quiet home, lots of patience and empathy and can offer this lovely girl the retirement home she deserves for her last years then please email us telling us all about your home offer and contact details to [email protected]
