Don't confuse Equine Cushing's with old age! 🐴

Equine Cushing's disease is a common cause of signs that can easily be confused with the natural ageing process.

Identifying Equine Cushing's disease as soon as you spot changes in your horse will enable you to treat and manage this condition, and keep your horse healthy and active for as long as possible.

Thick coats and delayed or even absent coat moulting, can be a sign your horse or pony has Cushing’s.

Whilst clipping can provide temporary relief, diagnosis and treatment improve coat quality long term and minimise the risk of your horse developing other clinical signs such as laminitis, lethargy, and recurrent infections.

Have you noticed any of these signs in your horse?
🐴 Laminitis
💦 Abnormal sweating
💊 Recurrent infections
🐴 Abnormal haircoat
🥱 Lethargy
💧 Increased thirst or urination
🍏 Muscle wastage
🥕 Abnormal fat deposition
🐴 Infertility
If so your horse could have Equine Cushing's disease (also known as PPID). We recommend that you speak to your vet who will be able to assess your horse and carry out an ACTH test.

Equine Cushing’s disease is a condition where excessive levels of hormones are released from the brain, causing a variety of symptoms which can include laminitis.

Signs of Equine Cushing’s disease (PPID) can often be overlooked or put down to ‘old age’. These include lethargy, a pot belly and loss of topline over the back. Other signs develop as the disease progresses, including delayed or absent hair shedding and a long haircoat.
