I would like to offer a huge heap of thanks to for all the help they’ve given me this season (and every season). Providers of the fallen trees that I transform into healthy delicious medicinal mushrooms, I literally would not exist as an operation without these guys and gals. If you need tree care in Madison, please know they’re an extremely great and generous company who really know what the heck they’re doing—they rock. 🌲🎸 🌳🎸

I love it when I abandon a shiitake log that hasn’t produced for a year on the forest floor only to find it blooming later. Growing mushrooms this way requires a lot of patience 🍄🍄🍄

Shiitake ho!! I have a sizable quantity of fresh beauteous caps on my hands. The fall weather is cool and perfect and almost every log in my laying spot is blooming. If you’d like some, please visit our online store and place your order by midnight Friday for special pickup hours 10-5 Saturday and Sunday. And if you’ve taken a log home, be sure to check it as I’ve been getting reports from many that they’re getting fresh shrooms this week.

It’s market time again!! Swing by the at the Lansing Food Forest this Saturday, September 14 from 10AM to 1PM. I’ll be there with some shiitake logs, some coffee grounds oyster kits and possibly even some leftover fresh shiitake. There will be other illustrious makers and farmers from the Eastmorland neighborhood and beyond present with their wares as well. Hope to see you there!

This spring was tough for growing mushrooms outdoors—the frequent rains meant as soon as I had a batch of shrooms, they were huge, soggy and overripe when it rained the next day or the day after. As usual, the summer has been quiet here on the farm but now the weather is perfect and the shiitake are back! We have quite a few cute looking caps popping so stay tuned for an offering in the next few days. ✌️

Our field trip / inoculation day workshop was a great success! Minds were filled, logs were drilled and no blood was spilled. Thanks to everyone who attended for your hard work and for your help as we powered through a massive pile of oak logs in mere hours! 🍄🍄🍄

Saturday! I will be at the spring market hosted by at the Lansing Food Forest near Garver Feed Mill, from 10am to 1pm. I’ll have a fine pile of inoculated shiitake logs available for sale along with some DIY kits for growing oyster mushrooms on your coffee grounds. Come stop by and say hi and check out the wares of the other makers and vendors. The weather is supposed to be beautiful, hope to see you there!

Our first shiitake inoculation workshop was a success! We drilled and filled a titanic pile of oak logs in record time. Thanks to .mycological.society for putting it on, and thanks to everyone who registered and came out—it was great to meet you and a pleasure teaching!
