Come out on Monday, April 15th at 5:30pm for my free informational chat about your dog’s behavior. Location is at Dog Dayz of California.
Message me to register.
Each month I will cover a different topic. April is Reactivity.
Gain a different perspective of your dog’s behavior by learning about how dogs learn and process stress. Learn how to support your dog and up that ‘happiness quotient’ so they are able to deal with triggers.
Twyla would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
She’s a puppy so learning calm behavior around the tree is going to be important for enjoying the season 🐾🎄
“Take a Chill Pill” as the name for the mat. I love it!
I tell everyone that they can name the mat whatever they would like. Over the years I have had people name it the Shuttle, the Cloud and character names from Star Wars. Here, Morty is learning to target his mat being further away from his guardian.
The mat with the Relaxation Protocol is the cornerstone to calm behavior. And Morty is on his way to being less anxious and reactive.

Work, School, Sports…. Life is busy. I can come work with your pup while you’re busy. Don’t get behind on your training goals.
Scarlett and I had a fabulous session followed by a decompression walk.

When you get to 14.5, you get to celebrate your half birthday!! Happy half Birthday Riley 🎉🎉🎉
To my buddy, my sweet pupper luppers, and best sidekick in training I could hope for.
Thank you Julia for this video testimonial! She made my day when she told me that it blew her mind when I told her to let Finn sniff on walks.
She immediately told all her friends! 🎉
I tell people all the time to let their dog sniff. Why?
🐾 Nature is free enrichment - use it
💜 It raises their “Happiness Quotient”
🐾 The more they sniff, the less they care about everything else going on.
We were at the beach on a beautiful day that was busy with plenty of people and dogs. What you can’t tell in the video is that there are dogs walking by during the video. Way to go Finn and Julia! 🐾💜

Remi is mastering the ‘art of the chill’. He’s a shy and sensitive pup who used to be almost impossible to walk. This day he actually went up to a male park employee, met Riley and laid down while on the leash. 💜🐾
Training tip Tuesday thanks to #kekoaandkaya.
Kaya is starting to exhibit some reactivity toward people and especially men entering their home.
It’s a slow process of making sure she made the choice to get closer.
☑️ We started with treats wrapped up in a shirt worn by Michael inside the house before she met him.
☑️ Then we went outside to the curb, where he was sitting with his back turned.
☑️ Next he got up and walked away from her to see if she wanted to follow. We also practiced him walking toward her after going out of sight to practice calm while walking past strangers on walks.
☑️ Then we walked in the house together after a little more work on the porch. He walked around the kitchen a few times before going back out the front door, then back in again.
☑️ And finally to the backyard when she was quite happy and relaxed around him.
Yes, very yummy treats were involved. Doggies like comfort food too 😃
🎉🐾Way to go Kaya!
Happy Puppy Training
This is what training should be like. Fun and enjoyable!
It’s wonderful when you get not only compliance from your dog in training but being eager and happy about it are even better. 💜🐾
🌟Training Tip Tuesday🌟
Using the word ‘ No’ all the time will lead to either frustrated behavior or your dog will stop trying new things.
Instead you want more direction and less corrections. You have to give them something to do instead. Ask for a known cue that is an incomparable behavior.
You have two opportunities at meal time every day to reinforce training and impulse control. I can leave the room, do jumping jacks and twirl around and this boy won’t break until I tell him. It just depends on how much drool I want to clean up from the floor 😀
Part of getting good behavior from your pup is giving them the exercise and stimulation needed for their breed. Retrievers love water. Even though mine won’t swim, he loves going to the lagoon.
