Almost 2 months later and I'm finally getting around to post the pics from Buck Brannaman clinic.
I'm still in awe of how helpful, educational, and fun this was. Despite what my face says in 95% of the pictures. I was very serious about listening, digesting and trying to put into practice what we were learning. It has helped remind me of many of the things I use to use training wise and stepped away from a bit and I think it has helped my training horses as well as my own.
Most of the exercises were slow and focused on precision and have truly helped with the cow sorting! Slow and correct work get you to where you want to be faster then overstimulating and rushing through things. These are things we can always go back to if we feel our connection is falling apart. Basics will never die out and should be practiced continually.
The horse should always come first and if that means we step back and slow down it is worth it in the end!
This year has been a year of lots of clinics, learning and growing, and it was great to add the one I've been waiting to ride in for 18 years now.
This is why you pay your instructors and trainers so much. They are hopefully continuing their education to not only help you but the horse.
If you're a client current or past you know you've heard me say this a million times. If you are not continuing your education and adapting to what we are learning in horses, so yes this may mean you change things from the past, you should be done with horses. They are a living and breathing being that has a mind of its own and if you're not adapting to them things can get dangerous fast.
Lessons are key, clinics are key, continuing education is key no matter what level rider you are. You do not know everything and sometimes having a set of eyes on you, even if it's just once a year, is huge.
Thank you to George and Buck for an amazing experience. And Craig and Maryrea for going on this amazing adventure with me!
Here's to another year of growth.
Enjoy the many faces of Sully, who did amazing for being 3, riding with 30 other horses and barely been off the property. She's now happily sitting in the field until the spring to grow and run and play!
