This 6-pound little dog, likely just under a year old, has endured more heartbreak than anyone should in her short life. On October 11, 2024, witnesses saw a car heartlessly throw her onto the street. Shaking with fear, tail tucked, she was caught by kind-hearted strangers, saving her from busy traffic.

But her hardships didn’t end there. Shortly after arriving at the City of San Bernardino Animal Services, she was adopted by a family who couldn’t understand her scared behavior. Nervous around their children, she nipped when chased and was quickly labeled “untrainable.” Locked outside, left to eat trash and gophers, and ignored when she cried from separation anxiety, she was finally returned to the shelter on November 15, 2024.

Her shelter notes describe her as “jittery, whale-eyed, and tail-tucked,” behaviors born out of fear and confusion, not aggression. Sadly, this mistreated pup now sits on the euthanasia list, with her life hanging by a thread simply because no one has taken the time to understand her needs.

This little dog deserves a chance—a patient and loving home where she can heal from the trauma inflicted by humans. She has so much potential to thrive if someone gives her the opportunity.

Duke’s time is running out. Injured, scared, and misunderstood, this brave boy has until tomorrow to find a savior. Can you be the one to rewrite his story?

Duke’s world changed in an instant. Hit by a car on November 1, this gentle soul was wheeled into the shelter on a cart, his body broken and his spirit shaken. Despite the excruciating pain from a fractured left femur and road rash, Duke showed no aggression—only fear and suffering.

But fear has been mistaken for aggression. Terrified and in pain, Duke retreated to the back of his kennel, a place where shelter staff have deemed him unapproachable. His options have dwindled, from amputation or rescue to now just death. Tomorrow, November 17, Duke’s life will end unless someone steps forward to save him.

This 3-year-old, 60-pound terrier mix still has so much love to give. Duke is not aggressive—he is scared and in need of compassion. Time is critical. His fate depends on you.
