AkioYodasan Avalanche Training Find
Watch as AkioYodasan digs out the subject he has just found after searching a 2-acre sector of snow. Our subject, Rob, is a foot or so beneath the late spring snow, which is very wet and dense, unlike earlier winter fresh powder, wherein we can dig 6-foot deep snow trenches with side-caves at the bottom, place the subject in and re-fill. However, even this shallow trench beneath the wet snow is a great look into how the dog can locate and dig out a subject. The TSAR K9 Unit trains for all types of circumstances, weather and terrain.

ABOUT Delinda VanneBrightyn & Dogology - DV
Hello, I am Delinda VanneBrightyn, and I LOVE dogs! I have trained dogs since I was 6, teaching a variety of tricks to my first dog CoCo and my parakeet, Pretty Boy. My professional career as a dog behavioral trainer has now spanned over 15 years.
When I first moved away from my childhood home, a completely remarkable dog, Jazz, came into my life and taught me so much more about dogs. Jazz traveled all over this country with me, never had a collar or lead (wore a bandana), and had complete off-lead command and control. I have many incredible, (almost unbelievable) stories about Jazz and our adventures together. Of course, those were different times and times have now changed.
Obvious to say, Jazz sealed my relationship of training and bonding with dogs. While I had always trained my dogs to levels far above most average pets, at a certain point in my life, I decided I was ready for a working dog.
My first working dog was a Schutzhund 3, a fully trained personal protection dog. Veilchen, a GSD, taught me a lot about highly trained working dogs. Veilchen was a very serious dog when working, but was a complete gooshy cuddle bug at home by my side. He gave and taught me so much, as all great dogs do. I can never fully repay that beautiful boy.
Veilchen inspired me to train my next working dog in a way wherein we could serve our community together and that is were search and rescue came into the picture. I joined TSAR in 2002 and then traveled to train with handlers and trainers all over the country to get up to speed about current behavior and training search dogs. After becoming a Full Member of TSAR, I chose my first search dog, Zatoichi, in 2003, then a 7.5 week-old puppy.
Zatoichi and I then began our passionate journey of search and rescue together. This journey has changed everything about my understanding of dogs and the direction of my life. I have now been the K9 Unit Leader for TSAR for 15 years.
I was also the first President of Stray Hearts Animal Shelter, where I served for almost 3 years (2003 - 2006) and then again as the Behavioral Trainer for 1.5 years (2014-2016). This experience allowed me to train a huge variety of dogs (and people) in rehabilitating behavior, making these dogs adoptable, and thus saving lives.
I started offering behavioral training for Taos residents in 2004, at first offering behavioral modification classes for dogs dealing mostly at first with aggression and fear, but also helping with barking, car and animal chasing, separation anxiety, environmental sensitivities, general anxieties, food issues, possessiveness, and more. This service has developed into offerings of private sessions and classes in a large variety of K9 learning and response, including training for therapy, emotional support, and medical assistance. I continue to train search dogs and am called into other states to help train SAR dog handlers there.
I began this by saying, “I Love Dogs!” and that statement cannot be underestimated. I have such a deep passion for dogs, as probably do you; their incredible sense of dedication to service, their amazing desire to learn and grow and to do work. I cannot list here all the ways dogs teach and amaze me, all the ways they make me laugh and learn about myself and others, all the joy and heartbreak they bring, neither of which I would ever relinquish, as it is a testimony to their depth, their beauty, the way they touch our very hearts and souls with goodness and unconditional love.
I simply cannot imagine the world without dogs and if I can help even one person and one dog create a happier, more deeply enriched life together, then my life has been forever enriched as well.
