This is something I've often wondered while out with the dogs 'why leave that one tree how bizzare'. Well here's the reason! 🌳🍂

Did you know (because we didn't): the stray dead trunks left after the clear felling are deliberate and serve a purpose.

It's known as "standing deadwood".
Dead trees can be vulnerable to high winds and the tendency for human caretakers to "keep things tidy" (hides secateurs behind back), but those allowed to remain in place offer incredibly valuable habitat for wildlife that can live nowhere else.

Deadwood comes in many forms, all of which has its part to play in woodland ecosystems.

Standing deadwood decays more slowly than what's on the ground, giving another different habitat for woodland wildlife.

Wood decomposition is one of a woodland's essential recycling processes and a natural part of every tree's lifecycle. Dead and decaying wood also provides a nutrient-rich habitat for fungi, a nursery for beetle larvae and a larder for insectivorous birds and other animals.

So now you know...

To anyone who thinks being a dog walker is an easy job...... it's not!. It takes time, patience, effort and a lot understanding of each individual dog. No dog is the same. No dog is perfect!. But that's what makes it so rewarding!. Its great working with each and every one of them and seeing how they all grow and develop. Bumping into Adventures with Alix and Sillypets Services would have been stressful for some of my doggies at one point and for my pup overstimulating but look at them now! ❤️❤️❤️
