Things have stayed slower at the rabbit barn, but it looks like Sherlock made some exciting news happen this past week... two litters sired by him! There were a couple other does bred that either have not taken, or are holding on extra long. This is also a little appreciation post for our doe Dixie! She consistently gets bred, consistently kindles on day 31, and consistently gives us 6 babIes! We love a consistent reliable queen 👑 Dixie was a doe Uri let me get from Feia Farms' as a 10 month anniversary gift, and we just celebrated 3 years together and now have a wedding 45 days away!

Checked my notes and realized these guys are already 9 weeks old now! We pulled out the moms, made some initial culls, and these are now the juniors we have to grow out from our June litters. We have been working on shorter bodies and shorter shoulders, which we are definitely getting closer to with this group, but we kinda lost the fat heads 😭 Still very excited to see how these ones all mature! The photos do not do them justice... they are very full feeling and seem to pose much better when I put my camera away! 🤦‍♀️ Also if anyone is confident on what colors we have here feel free to comment and let me know! I feel like a lot have chocolate-y hints to them, but I am wondering if that is just me loving chocolate and hoping for it 😂

Yay 4-Hers! 🍀 We are so proud of the 4-H kids who have boughten from us and love to see the success they have found 🥹 Getting updates from people who have gotten rabbits from us definitely keeps us pushing through the hard parts of raising rabbits. Thank you for purchasing rabbits from us, and congratulations on all your wins kiddos!

Crazy temperatures, wild storms, and bad air quality due to wildfires... what a fun time to be a livestock owner 🔥😂
Let's hope the temps become more manageable in early/mid-August when we plan to breed some bunnies for September babies. Otherwise, all has been quiet at the farm. We showed at Olmstead and had our senior buck place second in his class and were fairly happy with how our juniors placed against their stiff competition.

Praying for all our bunny/livestock friends who also have to bear the heat to get the chores done!

It has been a little while since we last posted! All has been quiet on the farm as we hold off on breeding until cooler weather and patiently watch our current babies grow. Today I decided to show off our two biggest bunnies. Earl is our sandy Flemish Giant buck, who now lives with Waylon (or Birthday Cake depending on who you ask) the REW Continental Giant. Continental Giants are not a recognized breed for showing, but he was a gift from Snediker Farms to keep Earl company up at his spring/summer/fall home at Windy Willow LLC! Take a trip to Windy Willow to meet these two gentle giants :) You can even go into the pen with them to pet them!

This little fella went to his new home today! A very sweet family came all the way down from the Duluth area to add their first furry friend to the family 🐰

This litter is quite buck heavy, so if you are looking for a sweet boy, we definitely have one for you!! Broken and solid chestnuts available 😄

These babies are starting to get chunky! We lost just one baby from Enola, but it was a very runty baby that could not keep up with its siblings. Everyone else though is doing amazing!

We believe we have produced our first ever REW! It does not look like it has any frosty coloring, and its eyes seem pretty red ❣️ Looks likes also a lot of chin-variety colored babies and other sorts of ticked/agouti patterns

We no longer will be attending Galesville as planned unfortunately. I personally hated all my current juniors (I think we have a case of the fuglys happening), some wedding stuff worked best this weekend, and with some more heat coming it is better we are home. Looking forward to later summer and fall shows! We will miss our bunny friends until then 😞

Some quick photos I took while taking extra fur out of the nest boxes! The kits did a good job of not laying on top of each other with the heat, but we removed fur just in case. Some cute colors coming in and it seems that the moms are doing a great job despite the temps! This week is looking a little more comfortable, but the heat wave has made me remember why fall is my favorite 🍂

Sending good luck to everyone with rabbits preparing for the heat ☀️🔥We bought extra fans, froze lots of water bottles, and cleaned out the water pans so they have super clean cold water. It’s definitely stressful when you have animals and the weather is bad, so we do our best to keep them comfortable!

Because of the rat fiasco, I told myself I was not allowed to post my new babies until they at least reached a week old... and here we are! Piper and Enola had litters exactly one week ago. Piper had six that are all still alive and well, and Enola had 6 but two failed to thrive so she is down to 4. Since there has been no signs of rats, I will also announce that BonBon had a litter yesterday. 4 born but one was DOA so she has a little litter of 3. Small babies in the barn again makes me so happy, but also so stressed 😂 Bones was also bred but didn't settle. We will likely just let her continue to have the summer off and breed some does again the end of summer for fall babies 🍁

Here is a surviving litter from the rat attack. Tenne has 6 babies, but of course we ended up buck heavy. Dixie still has one frosty baby that is a buck, but it has a gimpy leg due to the attack. He has been named Nemo. We want to shout out Jellybean today since it is Father's Day and he is the sire to Tenne's litter. Our other bucks couldn't get the job done for Tenne, but she liked Jellybean it seems :) Happy Father's day to all the human and bunny dads out there! 💙

Haven't posted an update in awhile about our very first litter of Flemish Giants! Here is what we have learned for our first time with FG's: They grow like weeds! They are stupid friendly (not that we ignore them, but they are crazy friendly for the little amount of work we have done with them). They eat a lot, but not as much as you'd think. Mini Lops actually might pig out more than these guys 😂

We ended up with 5 surviving. 3 does and 2 bucks we believe. Eve is a good mom, but to her the nest box is a litter box so it required frequent cleaning. She also stomps on her babies a bit... big girl doesn't know her own size lol. They just turned 8 weeks, but we will probably hold onto them until at least 10 weeks.
