This is one of the hardest posts I've ever had to write. With the deepest sorrow, I have to tell you that Sookie has left us yesterday (Friday) morning 😔 This was one the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make because I know I was making it not just for me, but for all those that helped rescue her. My heart is breaking without her. I was so fortunate, so blessed to receive such a sweet, trusting and loving dog. As I look back in pictures, this is the one that stole my heart. I was fortunate enough to be the first to email an animal welfare organization in Bosnia to see if I could get this little girl home to me. Long story short, as luck would have it, two other dogs were scheduled to fly to the U.S. the next month, and in a last minute ditch effort, they were able to arrange to get Sookie (aka Scruff at the time) on the plane. This would not have happened without the help of a strong handful of people knowing what her fate might have been had she stayed there and for that I am eternally grateful ❤️ I will miss her sweetness forever 😢 There's even a video made by Dean Valentine showing her story at Sookie's Life I will love you forever my baby girl 💔

As Sookie ages, I've often thought about the day that I would have to tell those that rescued and assisted Sookie in her journey to the United States, and into the safety of my arms, that her last days are approaching. That day has sadly come. It pains me to tell you she has multiple inoperable masses in her spleen and Liver. This may have been due to what was once thought as a cherry eye now appears to be a tumor. I have loved and cared for this little girl for over 11 years (assumed to be 12 years old now), fed her a natural diet and lived a chemical-free lifestyle, as best we can. How this happened I don't quite understand, possibly genetics, but it's happening. We're in the final stages of making a decision. I say 'we' because I'm hoping Sookie let's me know because I'm just not ready to say a final goodbye. Please pray that she feels no pain and, when the time comes, it's a peaceful transition. At this point, that's all I care about 💔

Hello again friends 🧡 Well, Sookie's recently been to the Vet again as her eye is getting worse...further discussion is being considered. But, just as important, we're also having an issue with urinating a lot, couple accidents. She will now wear a diaper the couple days I'm at work. The Vet suspects Cushings disease. All the symptoms point to it as well. Of course, I will do an extensive search on how to treat, or at least, support the organs involved. But I thought I'd reach out to see if any friends have had experience of this with their dog(s). If so, could you please share?

Hello friends. Looking for your thoughts. Sookie, now around 12 years old, has had a cherry eye for over a year (I think it's due to, what looks like, a skin tag she had growing out of the corner of her eye.You can see it if you zoom in). We've been to different Vets, did the eye drops, but they didn't change anything. It doesn't seem to bother her but it does obstruct her vision a little (she's also developing cataracts at this point). Due to it not bothering her, surgery for the cherry eye would mostly be for esthetic purposes...she has such beautiful eyes 🙁 🥰
Would you do it or just leave well enough alone? Anyone have experience with their pet having cherry eye surgery? Or complications with cherry eye?

Our little Sookie is loosing her hearing 😔 Confirmed by the Veterinarian, no infection or wax build-up...a clean bill of health except for loss of hearing. Now I speak while incorporating sign language. Luckily I've been educated in that and deaf related issues. We received a package today and she didn't flinch when she normally barks. Then when I brought in the box she looked at me as if to say "we got a package?" I wonder if she understands her loss 🤔

Since I haven't posted much lately, thought I'd send a cute shot of Sookie to say "hi". Going to the Vet Thurs to for a check up due to the possibility of hearing loss. I just realized this shows the hole where she was tagged in Bosnia. So glad she's safe with me. "My little girl" ❤️
