It’s a little dry out

It took a while to get an appointment but finally got the vet out today. Gizzy is just getting worse and worse. When I say we’ve tried everything, i mean everything. We’ve thrown the book at him, excluding a f***l transplant. Omeprazole, biosponge, psyllium, steroids, antibiotics, probiotic, prebiotic, gut x, and Im sure im missing more. That said, the vet feels it’s cancer or organ failure. We will know more with today’s bloodwork.

Shout out to my neighbor Tobby and his friend Bill for coming over and pounding some new fence posts in for us. Our fence was hurting and it saved us a ton having to rent the post pounder. ❤️

Smokie came to us pretty aloof. He didn’t want to be touched (he had painful skin problems) and seemed kind of shut down.
A lot of horses come to us that way. They do grieve family and friends lost. It takes time to let that go and Smokie has definitely come around. He makes mucking take forever because he demands so much attention.

Ginger is home. I don’t know what to say other than I am respecting privacy and it wasn’t my decision. Ginger was distraught over it. I’m feeling pretty sad for her. I’m sorry I can’t answer the why questions. She is just home and I’m trying to make her feel better about it all.

We’ve been working on getting everyone bathed. What a project! So far we have gotten Katy, Amber, Lacey, Jubilee, Gizzy, Smokie, Rowdy, and Little Bit done. Only like 100 to go!😛

Shelli is out on a horse camping trip so I stopped by this morning on my home from work to feed her girls. She is fostering TreeStar (on the right) for TLERS and I can’t remember the other lovely lady’s name😬. I think June?

Gave Rosie a bath. She went from a skeleton to a chunky monkey! Right now we are treating her for scratches which is tough because she wants no part of the treatment. Lol

Quinn is one of our blind residents. We have raised him like all of the other horses. He lives in the pasture with the other horses, donks, and moos, and has a best buddy named Souci. He’s the sweetest.

Smokie hated to be touched when his fungal infection was in full swing. Now that he’s feeling better, he makes mucking hard. He just wants scratches. If you are in the paddock, you are to scratch him. Lol

Smokie’s fungus is almost gone. He has a few stubborn patches but he feels and looks sooooo much better. He came to us COVERED in a fungal infection. It was winter and too cold to treat so we had to wait it out. Now that it’s warm he has had several medicated baths and topical meds in between.

Everyone coming in for dinner
I tried so hard to edit this video, make the pics stick around longer, add captions, etc. It didn’t work. This is the best I could do. I wish it captured the beautiful miracle it was. A foal, rejected by its mom, was in need of a nurse mare. I had always said Shenany lactates and loves babies, but when introduced to this colt, she was not having it. I don’t know why, but I pulled Ginger out. Ginger, an elderly 28 year old broodmare with Cushings and arthritis. It was love at first sight. Not only does Ginger lactate (although she is now on meds to increase production), but she accepted this colt like she had foaled him herself. She is protective almost to a fault and so loving. Last night Ginger left TLERS to raise the baby and she couldn’t be happier. She will be back when the baby is weaned. We miss her, but what an incredibly important role she is playing. She made a miracle happen and we are blessed to have witnessed it. Ginger, you are a gem.❤️

Velvet is back! Lyn, our friend and volunteer, recently adopted Indy and Velvet. Velvet just wasn’t happy at her new home. No one’s fault and you just don’t know until you try it. Sometimes horses are great in a large herd setting but don’t adjust well when it’s a herd of two. Thank you for recognizing there was a problem Lyn. We want the horses happy, and just as important, our adopters happy. We didn’t want Indy alone so Moonshine has joined him. I meant to get pics of Moonie at her new home with Lyn, but Velvet is a handful and didn’t want to load in the trailer.
Our lady fox has officially moved into her den on our property. She moves out for winter but comes back to deliver her babies in the Spring.
Buffy the beefalo’s hair is coming out in clumps. She LOVES when we pull it out.
Rosie looks so good! She was feeling some kind of way today after dinner. Lol
Buffy loves her scratches especially during shedding season. Suzanne is using a back scratcher. Lol. It works great! We carry it in the ranger just for her.
Velvet loves coming out of the pasture for people time so much. She rather skip dinner to follow the ranger out of the gate. Ugh! And the mud. Please excuse the mud. It’s that time of year!
