RESCUED! This pair of beautiful wobbly kittens were found with a litter of kittens whose mother had disappeared. The other kittens were normal but these two have cerebellar hypoplasia, which is sometimes called "wobbly cat syndrome". Their brains are underdeveloped and although they have normal cognition, they can't control their body movements. They won't be able to survive on their own, so the community member that found them, asked us to take them in. We need your help to care for them! Thanks to your support, we raised the money we needed to cover our rent and staff salary on the 31st. But once again, our bank account has less than 2000 baht ($60 USD) in it! IT'S RAINING... INSIDE 💦 During the night a pipe burst in our 1st floor bathroom. Luckily the drains handled the water so no flooding but because of the location of the pipe, we've had to cut off water in the building. A plumber is currently opening up the wall to repair the pipe. There is never a good time for a disaster like this! Thanks to everyone's generous donations, last night we raised 26,000 baht of the our 50,000 baht goal. IMPALED! Poor Inky suffered a horrific accident a few weeks ago, impaled by a cast iron fence. A community cat out roaming, she must have fallen but ended up stuck with a metal rod going all the way through her abdomen. Some locals found her stuck on the rod, panicked and unable to free herself. Her rescuers got her rushed her to the hospital and contacted us to manage her care and rehome her once healed. Obviously this is a VERY complex injury and things were dire for Inky at first. But the extensive surgical repairs have been successful and now she's well on the long road to recovery. Let's get Maenam HOME! Last week we had to hospitalize this wonderful cat after she suddenly stopped eating and moving. She was diagnosed with triaditis, an extremely painful combination of hepatitis, pancreatitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. She also had pyelonephritis, a severe urinary tract infection that has ascended from the bladder to the kidneys. Without emergency hospitalization, she likely would have died within 24 hours. Maenam, like Max who died last month, is one of 16 cats PAWS Bangkok rescued from a hoarding situation in late 2022. The cats from this house of hell are inbred, malnourished, and rife with all sorts of diseases we rarely see. There is likely a genetic predisposition or component to her illnesses. But she remains a loving, affectionate, and playful cat when she is feeling well. It is our responsibility to give her all the necessary care. Thankfully, she has recovered well enough to be discharged to her foster home! But we still have nearly 30,000 baht ($850 USD) left to pay on her bill. In addition, we have staff salary due on the 15th. We don't have the funds to cover both. We urgently need your support. MAX NEEDS YOUR HELP!! This sweet fella was rescued with 16 others from a house of horrors in late 2022. An elderly hoarder had been allowing purebred cats to breed rampantly in a filthy townhouse filled with urine, feces, and garbage. When the woman developed terminal cancer, 50+ cats were left to starve. On the day of the rescue, Max was one of the lucky ones to come to PAWS Bangkok. All of the cats from this hellhole have many medical problems from abuse, neglect, and severe inbreeding. Max is no different and recently he's been having bouts of very painful pancreatitis. In the last 24 hours he's started going into shock so we've taken him to an emergency hospital for care and further diagnosis. Despite some amazing fundraisers last Sunday, PAWS currently only has enough funds for staff salary and rent. We URGENTLY need your help to pay for Max's emergency care. UPDATE on Shangri-la! Now hospitalized for fungal sporotrichosis treatment, this fella has clearly had a long, hard life. As is often true for the bad fungal cases, he has FeLV, the virus that causes feline leukemia. So he will have some immunosuppression, and he's anemic too. At this point we have no idea if he will respond to the treatment or not. But in the meantime he is eating like a champ, so we will take that as a positive sign. PAWS Bangkok usually cannot care for sporotrichosis cats. The disease is far too infectious to treat in our shelter, it is infectious to humans, and requires months of hospitalization. Thanks to your support, Shangri-la will get the care he needs! Your help is still needed though to take care of the nearly 140 animals in our care at the shelter, in foster, and at the cafe.
