Need Prayers too!

If any licensed rescues locally want to help with this hot mess let us know by private message or get with mama by text, 573-275-7039 or her personal FB. MAC’S MISSION IS NOT ABLE TO TAKE ANY OF THEM. We are only trying to help a local officer find placement after an elderly woman passed away in her home this past saturday and was found today. This is a super sad situation so absolutely zero negative comments. There is no information other than there is a bunch of them and they seem nice.

K thanks,
MagPie, rescue is exhausting and we need it to slow down for a hot minute folks, just so we can try to catch our breath here.

CBD for Callapsed Trachea in Dogs ?

Much like other degenerative conditions, this disease is chronic, progressive, and irreversible. An episode can be very painful and may last for several minutes, so it’s best to catch this condition before it’s too late. If the trachea is collapsed for an extended period of time, oxygen levels may drop dangerously low and in extreme cases can be fatal.

What are the Symptoms of Collapsed Trachea in Dogs?
As with any progressive condition, it’s best to catch it early. There are several symptoms of collapsed trachea to watch for. If your dog is experiencing any of the symptoms listed below, make sure to discuss with your holistic veterinarian. Final diagnosis may require tests such as radiograph, echocardiogram, or fluoroscopy.
• Honking cough
• Loud, abnormal, wheezy, or labored breathing
• Rapid breathing
• Retching
• Blue or purple gums
• Difficulty exercising without breathing issues
• Fainting
• Breathing changes when being picked up

You may also notice the symptoms worsen when:
• Your dog is excited
• After your dog eats or drinks
• When overheated or in high humidity
• When around smoke
• At night
• When there is pressure on the neck or throat area

Conventional Treatments for Collapsed Trachea in Dogs:

Traditional vets will offer several different drugs in an effort to combat all of the symptoms. Along with their own side effects, these drugs also have the potential to interact with each other as well as any other medications your pet may be on.

These drugs include:

• Anti-inflammatories
• Sedatives
• Antispasmodics
• Bronchodilators
• Analgesics

(*Before choosing to wean your dog off of prescribed medications for tracheal collapse, discuss safe weaning with someone familiar with holistic treatments.)

A CBD-rich Full Spectrum H**p extract has been proven to manage each of the previously mentioned symptoms, without the risk of side effects or dangerous interactions that pharmaceuticals bring…

CBD as an Anti-Inflammatory:

This property is one of those for which cannabis is most well known. Compounds found in cannabis that reduce inflammation are abundant and diverse. The most abundant phytocannabinoids in cannabis, THC and CBD, both have strong anti-inflammatory properties, while CBC, CBG, and THCV have also demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties. By preventing and counteracting chronic inflammation, CBD has the potential to reduce irritation and pressure in the pulmonary system and prevent further degradation of the trachea and supporting cartilage.

CBD as an Anti-Anxiety:

Stress, anxiety, and fear can trigger and exacerbate that honking cough associated with a collapsed trachea. Thankfully, CBD is a wonderful, natural way to prevent fear and anxiety without causing outright sedation, as drugs like Trazodone would.
In other words, this means that CBD can help in facilitating extinction of negative emotion surrounding triggers, and helps manage anxiety or panic disorders in people and animals. Perfect, for instance, for preventing the anxiety that comes with tracheal collapse episodes.

CBD as a Bronchodilator:

Not only does CBD help reduce inflammation and calm out pets anxiety, research also shows it has the ability to act as a bronchodilator, expanding these airways and letting more air in. During collapsed trachea episodes, the last thing you would want is for the bronchioles to be constricted as a result of an attack.
According to this study, from the University of Florence in Italy, “The activation of CB1 receptors on bronchial nerve endings has bronchodilator effects by acting on the airway smooth muscle and may be beneficial in airway hyperreactivity…”

CBD as an Antispasmodic:

One of the secondary effects of an episode of collapsed trachea are muscle spasms, both locally and throughout our pets’ bodies. Coughing fits cause involuntary convulsions and muscle spasms as our dogs try desperately to get a breath of fresh air.

Conventional muscle relaxers and anti-spasmodics have dangerous interactions with other drugs, and are known to be highly sedative. In contrast, CBD from a full-spectrum h**p extract is extremely safe, with no negative effects to our pets quality of life.

CBD as an Analgesic:

Finally, full spectrum h**p extract (CBD) is great for reducing pain. Cannabis has been used as an effective analgesic dating back thousands of years. One of the ways it does this is actually by changing the way the recipients’ central nervous system communicates the sensation of pain to their brains.
For example, when an injury occurs, like a dog hurting his paw on a sharp rock, the damaged tissue tells inflammatory and immune cells to begin repairing the damage. The cells release chemicals and proteins to activate receptors on nerves. Finally, these nerves move to the spinal cord and up to the brain causing our dog to feel the pain in his paw. CBD products can be utilized long-term to reduce pain effectively, by weakening these pain signals.

A study in Current Neuropharmacology, states that CBD has therapeutic benefits for both people and pets, suffering from chronic pain and acute chronic pain episodes. A combination of plant-based CBD and THC drugs in the U.S. and Canada have also been approved to relieve chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (Cesamet™), or spasticity or pain in multiple sclerosis or advanced cancer (Sativex®)

Pet parents are often highly concerned that they will give too much CBD and cause harm to their pets. However, more often than not when a pet is not having the desired reaction, it is because the pet isn’t getting the dosage they need for their ailment.

Final Thoughts on Collapsed Trachea...
In the case of collapsed trachea, there is so much we can do naturally to slow down the progression of this disease and prevent future episodes. For instance, CBD from a full-spectrum extract is great for our pets immune system, mobility and mental health. In addition, it has the potential to replace each of the five main types of medication used by conventional vets to treat this condition.
In conclusion, along with using a full-spectrum NATURAL extract product, look into the following ways you may be able to fortify your pets defenses against collapsed trachea:

• If your dog is overweight, bring them in line with healthy standards
• Use a harness, avoid collars which can further damage the trachea
• Feed a fresh, species appropriate diet geared at reducing inflammation and allergies
• Use HEPA air filters that keep the air in your home free of allergens
• Avoid products in the home that contain artificial fragrances

It was an awesome day with a super cool visit from Slick N' Moo - Loose Greyhounds supporters that go way back to the beginning- They searched for the boys before they were even secure, and continued to support them coming to visit once or twice a year to see how the boys are doing!
And well, here they are! Four years later and still goofy... 🤪

Finally! A cooler, quiet evening to get these boys moving🚀
So Funny - that's the same Kong Bunny tied to the same green rope, from 2019..
When they first came, we used it to "go fishing" and would drag it past their nose to teach them how to play 😁

I remember crying the first time I saw them play. When they didn't have to worry anymore about surviving and they weren't exhausted from constantly trying to find food and shelter. First tail wags were another milestone ~ when they finally realized they could just be puppies.🥰

I cry ALOT. 🤣😭

Here is the very first tidbit I saw regarding any loose dogs. And its very strange that I even saw it because it was shared by an unknown individual on YouTube and I never used that platform... some how I ended up staring at this on my screen... thats when I prayed "well God, SOMEBODY has to do SOMETHING to save him! what can one person do?" further investigation led to finding out there were originally 3 of them thought to be dumped here where this photo was taken at the River Rouge trailhead in Canton...

***UPDATE:

So this is probably long overdue... but as you might imagine, I have been a little busy. I thought an update to the SNM story should be posted, now that they have been hear over 60 days in rehab/recovery. Some may be able to tell by the actual pic above, that the original calls coming in for “loose greyhounds” were slightly incorrect. Once they were recovered, they did not appear to be pure greyhounds at all, or retired racers (no tatoos or chips). Initial weights were 37 (Moo) and 36 lbs (Slick), and now at a healthy weight of 45 (Moo) & 50 lbs.(Slick). They both exibit a great deal of greyhound behaviors, so I am sure it is in their DNA somewhere. At this point, we assume they are are mixed with Whippet (or goat in Moo’s case). Also - Their mental status was not expected to be feral, so that was a surprise... but after working with them for 2 months I don’t feel they have been handled with kindness, or in a home environment at all. They were both extremely fearful of people of any demographic. Slowly but surely they are getting well. Please feel free to scroll to the very start of this page to follow their journey back to health and happiness. (Thank you to everyone who continues to support this effort as we nurture them back to a healthy mental state. God Bless!)

Original Story (June 6, 2019) : This is a quick page setup for 2 loose Greyhounds we have been tracking and hoping to trap on the Canton/Belleville border (Moo), and in Wayne (Slick). Moo is reported to look like our model Oreo (above), or Dory (in the Cover photo), and Slick is a blue/grey color as in the profile picture to the left (actual pic of Slick under a log). They were first reported to Canton Police around June 6th by a dog walker off the Lilly / Lower Rouge Trail in Canton. They have since parted ways... Moo hanging around south of Mich Ave down Morton Taylor Road nearer to Tyler, and Slick treveling along the river, has made his way into Wayne.

If you happen to be around those areas, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO ENGAGE/CATCH these two. If you want to help, we need pics or videos of sightings and note the date and time. We are in the process of setting up feeding stations and getting them comfortable with a non- active trap near where they feed. This is a slow process. Stay tuned for progress.
