Update:
One of our regular vets was nice enough to meet us at the clinic today so we could get the “puppies” out of the shelter. I say “puppies” because Hershey and Nestlè are at least a year and a half old! Maybe they are Godiva’s puppies and maybe they aren’t, who knows.
The boys are clearly emaciated and malnourished, they are full of parasites, dehydrated, and they smell like old, dried urine. The good news is that they are handling eating small meals well. With dogs that have been hungry like these guys, it’s important that they don’t eat too much at one time. It’s hard not to look at them and give them all the food they want but that would be very dangerous.
Godiva update: she is a little stronger than she was yesterday. She will hold her head up, wag her tail, and she’s even trying to stand up! Her body is very weak and is she is still having trouble regulating her blood sugar and body temperature. She is still at the emergency vet in critical condition at this time. Hopefully they can get her stable enough that we can transfer her to one of our regular vets soon but she will have a long road ahead of her.
In the meantime, donations are still needed to help these 3 and they all need foster homes for once they are ready to be discharged. Please go to www.dcanimalalliance.org, click on “fostering” and apply to be a foster home!
We can’t do what we do without loving fosters willing to help us give these babies a second chance!

Update on Sweet Godiva:
Here is what we know regarding her condition and prognosis. Her blood sugar is very low so the vet is giving her a dextrose drip. Her body temp was still too low to register when I left the vet but they had her on heating pads and was giving her warm fluids to warm her up slowly. Her bloodwork is all over the place due to the dehydration and malnutrition. Of course, her body is full of parasites sucking even more life out of her including hookworms and heartworms.
Cognitively, Godiva just isn’t there. Her responses are not what the vet would like to see and right now her chances of recovery is guarded. The vet says that it’s worth giving her a chance but it’s really up to Godiva to have the will to live.
We are giving her all the help we can right now. We just pray that there’s enough fight left in her for our efforts to make a difference.
We’ve already paid $2500 just today for Godiva and the vet says that if she makes it through the weekend, our total costs could be over $6,000. Please, dig through the couch cushions, skip the fancy coffee in the morning, and donate what you can to help us give Godiva a fighting chance.

We need the DCAA family to come together for an emergency! The shelter called me in tears this morning when 3 dogs were found lying in a ditch on the side of the road in this cold, rainy weather. There is a mom and 2 older puppies (maybe 7 months old). We have named the mom Godiva which means “God’s Gift” and she is in critical condition at the emergency vet now. She is clearly emaciated and her body temperature is too low to register on the thermometer.
If you know the owner of these dogs or know who may have dumped them on Riverview Road Extension in Lexington last night or this morning, please let us or the Davidson County Animal Shelter know!
We will post more once we have more information as we get it but in the meantime, we need donations to help with what could possible be extensive veterinary bills. You can give via mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27360, via PayPal to [email protected], or through the FB link below.
We will also need foster homes! Apply on our website, www.dcanimalalliance.org.
Thank you!

Did you spend yesterday alone or did your Valentine drop the ball?

Goose has been waiting to feel cupids arrow and is looking for that special someone to be his valentine.
He is quite the catch!
Goose doesn't complain when there's leftovers for dinner. He won't criticize your driving or when you sing off key. He doesn't mind if your feet stink or if you fart in bed. Goose won't even care if you talk to other dogs or look at pictures of cute young pups on the Internet.
Goose knows how it feels to spend nights alone and truly knows what betrayal feels like.
His promise to you is this: open your heart and home to him and give her your love and he will be loyal to you for the rest of his life.

Goose and other adorable adoptables are at Tractor Supply in Lexington until 1pm today so stop by, give a little love to some pups in need of a forever home, and maybe find true love!

Check out Hubba bubba aka Mr. Beast as his foster mom calls him sometimes!

This boy has a lucky ear that makes him special! This boy has been through something in his short life, but he holds no grudges!

At almost 8 weeks old and 15lbs, he will likely be a beast! We believe he is an Akita mix and will be large (maybe xl). We are working on potty and crate training too!

Hubba Bubba will be available for adoption next week 2/13! He will also be available to meet at our adoption event at Tractor Supply Co. 2/15!

The adoption fee is $125 and includes his puppy vaccines, microchip, and future neuter. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Hubba Bubba, please fill out an application@ www.dcanimalalliance.org.

(His sisters are pending their foster to adopt homes at this time)

Currently in foster to adopt!

Last week, we pulled this scruffy little girl from the shelter. Meet Yola! She’s around 1-2 years old, 4 pounds, and has an adorable little underbite. Yola is very shy when meeting new people, but once she’s claimed you her person, she comes out of her shell. Our best guess on her breed is an Affenpinscher mix. Yola is terrified of cats and dogs larger than her. She has quickly learned what door to go to when it’s time to go potty and loves to be held.
Yola will be getting spayed as soon as possible but she could placed in a foster-to-adopt home and the adoption would be finalized once she has healed from her surgery.
In interested, please go to www.dcanimalalliance.org and submit an adoption application. Yola’s adoption fee is $125.
