Hazel, the matriarch of the Cat Kingdom at Holly's House of Cats & Hounds, passed away peacefully in her sleep today at the age of 16, possibly greater in years. As I recall her story, I think more like 18 years old.

She nurtured and rescued 100s of cats and dogs with me over the past 10 years. She helped fearful cats trust humans, cared for unwanted kittens and was the best friend to my semi-feral cats who only trusted me.

As I wrapped her in a blanket to carry her away, her best friend Harry came over to say one last goodbye.

You were my first rescue cat as an adult, I found you and your sister Tabitha in a ditch on a dirt road in SE Michigan. I ran and got my mom to help me catch the two of you as you were both scared and most likely dumped in the ditch.

My father said, we had enough cats and I told him Animal Control would come get the kittens the next day. The next day, I told my Dad Animal Control requested I take them to their facility an hour away and somehow from there my parents kept Hazel and Tabitha.

At somepoint, Hazel moved in with me and moved at least 5 times over the years, caught countless mice and defended her turf to the dogs.

You are the best cat Hazel. Countless cats thank you for your efforts Your sister continues to live happily with my parents.
