I just want to mention that I am still unable to offer any dog training help. From the anticipation of being discharged by the Cardiologist I am still atm unable to be seen for surgery for the hernia I have which began plaguing me last summer and now prevents me working hands on with dogs. Currently NHS are suggesting June however there is no date and then there is an eight week recovery period.

I have to say this has caused me to seriously look at fully retiring and that has led to the post with a link attached concerning State Pensions. I urge any of you approaching State Pension age to look at the link.

Apparently NASA has a poster hanging with bumble bees that reads:

"Aerodynamically a bumble bee's body is not made to fly; the good thing is that the bee doesn't know".

The law of physics says that a bumble bee cannot fly, the aerodynamic principle says that the breadth of its wings is too small to keep its huge body in flight, but a bee doesn’t know, it doesn’t know anything about physics or its logic and flies anyway.

This is what we can all do. Fly and prevail in every moment in the face of any difficulty and in any circumstance despite what they say. Let us be bumble bees, no matter the size of our wings, we take flight and enjoy the pollen of life.

Please be advised, I have cancelled renewal of membership of canine and feline behaviour association. Once the existing membership expires l will no longer be accredited as a behavioural professional. I am renewing public liability insurance and so will remain legally insured to see and advise clients.

This is because of health reasons.

I’ve just taken part in a wonderful interview with the son of a friend living in Mumbai. An absolute privilege to be part of the journey with a wonderful young person embarking upon an interest with dogs. Also it allows me to share the teachings of John Rogerson my friend and mentor so that his work his research continues on with future generations. I like to think John speaks through me.

Freddy and Nibble visiting my mum in law Sheila at Grosvenor Park Care Home, Darlington. It’s the first time they’ve been together in over two years. We will never know if she had any idea who they are but she seemed to like them visiting, as did the staff.

I’ve tried to remain silent in this situation regarding xl bull dogs. As l see it most commenting have a point, in both sides of the argument.
The problem imo is few are considering both breed specific behaviour traits but also and crucially, genetics. If dogs are bred for high reactivity and show this behaviour innately then the fact is their offspring will have their parents traits. If someone selected sweet natured low reactivity bulls and bred them there would probably be no aggression problems. Sadly many people breed from highly reactive dogs with proven records of aggression. Some of these pups end up in families with no real idea of how they will react when they’re mature. In some it’s evident in the puppies behaviour.
The same is true in any type or breed of dog. There are two further points here. One, and l haven’t sourced updated evidence at this point, people are not dying from attacks from other breeds in the numbers they are doing so from these recent examples. Two most, l accept not all, of other types or breeds are manageable physically by most people. I doubt even an incredibly strong human could hold onto a big solid muscular dog in it’s prime of the types we are hearing about recently.
I am not debating destruction, banning or anything else here. I am just trying to give a pragmatic opinion based on many years experience of working with dog behaviour problems as a professional.

This little fluffball was brought into us by a member of the public after being found as a stray, he was a bit hungry so we fed him up and the finder took him home to take care of him after our nurses explained how to look after such a young kitten.

Today is Check The Chip Day. Being microchipped is a legal requirement for dogs and for cats it will be from 10 June 2024.
Making sure your pet’s microchip is up to date is important because if they did go missing, it could make the difference in being reunited
with them.
Don’t forget, a microchip is included when you join The Healthy Pet Club. Ask us in practice to find out more

Our Story

David Davies was a professional that provided best practice when it came to training and behavioural canine needs. With many years' experience (many of those as a dog handler within a County Constabulary) you'll be pushed to find a more dedicated, knowledgeable and professional individual. Though now retired David will try and help dog owners locate a suitable expert to help them with their concerns concerning their dog. It is crucial to find suitable help and quickly. These days we are seeing more and more self appointed experts in this field. This still remains an unregulated profession. The provenance of the therapist is very important. With so many experts available in these times, then why are so many dogs deemed unhelpable and filling rescue centres?
