Social with 3 dogs
👋 Hi! Here are 3 signs that you’ll need to implement behavioral training techniques (instead of obedience training techniques) to improve your dog’s social skills around other people (guests, kids, strangers) and/or other animals (cats, dogs, livestock):
1️⃣ Your dog’s energy gets too high (frantic, hectic, impulsive, on the move, unable to settle, 0-60 in 3 seconds flat).
2️⃣ Your dog gets uncomfortable or worried (growls, barks, retreats, hides, snaps, lunges, ducks out of the way, charges forward).
3️⃣ Your dog does not, or cannot, interact well with other people or other animals (you’re worried about “what they’d do” and you either don’t allow interactions, or you don’t fully trust your dog to behave well and make good choices without constantly micromanaging their every move).
🤓 If this sounds like your dog, then join my free, virtual, Socialization Masterclass! All the details are here: https://www.theincrediblek9.com/freeclass

Dogs who bark or growl at *things*?
🧐Is teaching a dog to *ignore other things* really the best way to resolve reactivity?
🥰It’s okay if you’ve been trying to get your dog to *ignore* loud noises or *ignore* people and other dogs. Teaching dogs to *focus on you* and *ignore everything else* is a common approach in dog training!
🕊️The calmest and most polite dogs can watch the world go by, any day, all day. They can lounge out in the yard and quietly observe it all!
💕So let’s start helping our dogs learn how to *listen* and *watch* all of the very normal *things* that exist in life!
👀Dogs don’t have to ignore the loud trucks, the people, or the other dogs… Drama, the Rottweiler in this video, is not ignoring anything! She’s listening to the motorcycle drive by, and once she hears the UPS truck, she goes to the gate to watch! This is all very acceptable and appropriate behavior! I never taught her to *ignore* these things. I taught her how to be CALM around these things!
☺️So, let’s help dogs learn how to calmly watch and observe the world! Let’s help dogs feel safe, secure, happy, and optimistic about the things that they see and experience every day!
Inside my programs and courses, I teach you how to help your dog calmly and quietly watch the world go by. 🤩

Socializing Dogs
If you have a dog that behaves poorly around other dogs, then you may think that you need access to *other dogs* in order to solve this problem. Understand that “the other dog” is just a “thing”. And if your dog behaves so poorly around this “1 thing” then we can bet that your dog behaves poorly (to some degree) around “some other things,” as well. Dogs aren’t “perfect” around every. single. thing. but then “terrible” around ONLY 1 thing. There will likely be varying degrees of behavior that you tolerate, that can be improved upon, before we ever need to involve exposure to, or access to “other dogs.”
If your dog behaves poorly around other dogs, check out Social Dog Mastery™️. This is my most popular program and the waitlist is open now: https://www.theincrediblek9.com/sdmwaitlist

Social Dog Mastery
Is your dog pushy? 😲Pushy to greet people? Pushy to greet dogs? Rushing toward, jumping on, too much energy all at once?
We don’t need other people and other dogs to start to address this! 🤓Is your dog also pushy to get out the door? And pushy for food? Most dogs are pushy in multiple facets of life!
If we start to address this overall pushiness with food and with doors, then it will be easier to address the pushiness around people and dogs 👈 (which is always a higher energy environment)
So, if we begin to address these issues in easier moments... at lower energy times... then it will be EASIER to solve major problems when the time comes.
Work on SKILLS first. Then use those skills to solve problems! 😍 These dogs are being patient for food. None of them are diving in for another dog’s food. They are not being too pushy around food 🥳 (that result involved some training ☺️)
With training and experiences, they’ll gain the ability to *gather and settle* without barreling in and plowing into other people and other animals.
If you’d like your dog to behave well around other people or other animals, then my most popular program: Social Dog Mastery™️, could be perfect for you. Here are the details! https://www.theincrediblek9.com/sdmwaitlist
Treadmill Training
I started some treadmill training today with Bella! Step 1: Help her to happily stand on the treadmill when it’s turned off. Get on and off the treadmill. Happily eat while on the treadmill. ☺️
Social Dog Mastery™️
Would you like to be able to introduce your dog to other people or other animals? Does your dog currently bark, growl, snarl, snap, or lunge? Inside Social Dog Mastery™️, I teach dedicated dog owners how to regain and develop their dog’s social skills.
To see if your dog would be a good fit for this program, send me a DM and describe your dog’s current behaviors as well as what you’ve already tried (that hasn’t worked well enough)!
Do you see how Drama (Rottweiler) and Dutton (Boxer) lie down and relax, just because they WANT to lie down and relax? That’s what we want to see: dogs CHOOSING to relax, rather than being TOLD to do [whatever].
We want dogs to learn HOW to regulate their energy, CHOOSE to lower their energy, and ENJOY lowering their energy. Once the dog has this skill in non-stimulating environments, we incrementally increase the challenge. However, if *other dogs* are the biggest challenge, then we don’t just go hunting for *other dogs*. We need to develop our dogs’ skills BEFORE hunting for *other dogs* so that our dogs have an IDEA, a SKILL, and a CAPABILITY to relax around *stimulating things* (in general)!
*Other dogs* are just ONE of the many stimulating things that cause dogs to behave in undesired ways, but if a dog is THAT BAD around *other dogs* then it’s likely that a dog is a LITTLE BAD around something else that YOU can control: a ball, a tug toy, food, leashes, etc. Train around things that you CAN control. I can’t control other people’s dogs. I CAN control WHEN I bring out a tennis ball, WHAT I do with that tennis ball, and WHERE the tennis ball is—is it on the floor? Is it in my hand? Is it on the kitchen counter? Is another human holding it? Is another human rolling it around?
Let’s help dogs learn to RELAX around *stimulating things* that occur inside the house, first, before we worry about dogs learning to relax around *other dogs*, owned by *other people* (that we can’t control)!
The problem isn’t *the other dogs*. The problem is our dog’s ability to regulate their energy or emotional state. We can work on the energetic problem and the emotional problem without having *other dogs* present.
I teach these relaxation training techniques inside Social Dog Mastery™️, and I just opened the waitlist for our next group of students. Learn more about Social Dog Mastery™️, and join the waitlist, here: https://www.theincrediblek9.com/sd
