It’s comments like THESE that REALLY rub me the WRONG way.. I can’t stand when people put a price tag on a dog and say how many others could be saved. Although money is DEF a factor in rescue as most of us rely on donations the most important factor is FOSTERS. Yeah maybe I could save 10 dogs for the cost of 1 but where do you suppose I put these 10 dogs?!?

Furthermore, what kind of rescue would I be if i committed to taking a dog and then euthanized bc he cost too much?!? I knew what I was getting myself into when i took him, i chose to have faith that our rescue community would come through. And THEY DID! Do you know how many posts I see daily that rescues post that they euthanized a medical dog they had just pulled?!? I’m sorry but you have NO business pulling medical cases if you’re just gonna euthanize bc they are gonna cost too much to treat. Im sure all of you have seen me begging for funds in the past. I have NO SHAME doing so if it means healing a dog. Do i want to?, ofc not who wants to beg for funding! I’ll continue to do so if it means saving a life. I’ve always been very transparent and blunt about all our dogs. I’m not ever going to put them in the same or worse case scenario from what we rescued them from.

There is plenty of other rescues that operate differently. Our sole mission is saving the MISUNDERSTOOD! Whether that be a behavioral case or a major medical. I’m not going to change what i KNOW is my calling just to make others feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I will never conform to the “norm” of rescues and take highly adoptable dogs or ones that don’t have medical costs associated with them.

Does Chess look like he’s miserable? Does he look like he’s suffering? EVERY single dog we’ve saved always has at least one comment that we should euthanize them. Not a single one of these dogs didn’t deserve for us to advocate for them. Not a single one of these dogs did i regret saving. Not a single one of these dogs isn’t currently living their best life or did. I would not change not a single rescue 💝

📣CHESS UPDATE📣 The update we’ve all been waiting for! Chess has been discharged from AVC and is settling back into a temporary foster home. We just paid his final invoice. We wanted to assure everybody EVERY DOLLAR donated went towards his surgeries. In full disclosure we raised right around 15k and his fees were $16054. If anybody would like a copy of the entire invoice or needs a receipt for tax purposes please send us a DM..

Chess will be on crate rest for 8-10 weeks. He’ll have a check up in 2 weeks to make sure he’s still healing properly. We would LOVE to get Chess into a foster 2 adopt home where he can continue the healing process with a potential forever family. If you’re interested in please send us a DM. Please SHARE! A love story 💕 Bear, formally Alger, and his momma. From a skinny boy caught on video getting beat to THIS! Unfortunately Corsos are quickly becoming the hot new fad 🙄We currently have 3 others in the rescue. All misunderstood bc somebody didn’t take the time to properly socialize them. We need to do better… We can’t rescue our way out of this problem.

📣Chess UPDATE! Our boy completed his SECOND sucessful surgery! 👏🏻 All 4 fractures have now been operated on. He is VERY swollen right, which is to be expected so hes not moving too much as of now. He will remin at AVC to be closely monitored and hopefully be able to get discharged in the next day or two. THANK YOU again to those who shared and also contributed towards these surgeries! They could NOT of been possible without our amazing rescue community! ❤️ We can’t wait to share more updates on this chunky little warrior! We are incredibly pleased with Dr, Samsons (and staffs) care. They’ve been wonderful and so communicative during each step of Chess’s procedures. Very glad we chose them 💝

📣Little Foot 2 week UPDATE—- This cutie has settled wonderfully into his foster home. It’s such a shame so many dogs get euthanized due to not liking other dogs. I get it, alot of families have other pets but theres many out there that do not. Opening your home to these dogs is literally a life saved.

This is just a few of his fosters updates-

Little foot is perfect. He is so sweet, I was expecting a long night since the change from shelter to a home is so huge. But he slept all night. Was so calm in crate, goes right in.

LOVES food but still very gentle. Does very well on leash. I can’t wait to see how he grows with love and routine. He has so much potential!

1 week update: little foot is such a sweet baby. He loves physical contact. He amazes me with how smart he is. Picks up and routine so quickly. I alway ask him to sit before I open the back door for him, and I’ve only had to say it twice and now he always knows once I grab the door handle he immediately sits down.

We went on our 1st nature walk today, and he did great. Was very reactive to other animals (we saw a bunny and tortoise) but is easy to redirect. So with continued training I’m confident that’s something he will get better at.

Doing great! We have had some family/friends over to meet him and he is very sweet to everyone. We have been on a few car rides and he does great, but has to be in the front seat 🤣

On reactivity, slowly but surely there is progress. Two days ago we walked past a house with barking dogs in the window, 1st time we pasted he barked twice and kept going, then on way back he heard them again, just looked over at them then at me (I rewarded him) and continued walking. I wanted to cry I was so proud of him 🥲

He is getting more and more comfortable in our house. At 1st he wanted to be next to us 24/7 but now he is ok if I get up and go to another room.

THIS IS RIGHT HERE IS THE REASON WE RESCUE 👏🏻 So veryyyyyyy proud of this boy!!! ❤️

SMOOSHIE - This dog is an unaltered male. This dog is currently located in WDI32. This dog weighs approximately 56.0 lbs.,is 2Y and has tested negative for heartworm disease. This dog is being posted to rescue due to medical.

Meet Smooshie!

Smooshie was found as a stray by Semoran and Curry Ford Rd. He jumped inside the car of the person who brought him into the shelter, through the window, but had no signs of ownership. His lymph nodes are enlarged, hence the veterinarian suspects lymphoma and needs rescue placement by February 13th.

Medical notes:
Pet presents w/behavior team for evaluation of enlarged LN's.

Obs: BAR/tail wagging, BCS 5/9, muzzled for exam. HR 140, RR50/P, Ears-dirty, Lumph nodes; R/submandibular & Popliteal enlarged approx. 2-3X's normal size+ very firm; L/submandibular & Popliteal enlarged approx. 2x normal sized.

Plan: Enlarged LN's in dogs are lymphoma until proven otherwise, needs to be evaluated at a full service clinic with diagnostic ability. Emailed leadership about case.

📣Bluey update- The most common reason a dog ends up on a euthanasia list is due to a behavioral issue. We already have a major over population problem, then add in the fact that most people do not commit the time & dedication into making well balanced pets. Dogs do not fail themselves, humans do… Most people do not want to clean up a mess, a mess of dog. So these “types” of dogs are rarely chosen for adoption. It’s a sad scenario bc given the chance these dogs can & will thrive and become incredible, better versions of themselves. Saving the misunderstood is our speciality and nothing makes me smile harder then a good old progress report. After 2 months of hard work at Disciple Dogs , Bluey is finally around other dogs w/out a muzzle on and just look at that happy face! When we rescued Bluey and her brother from Orange County Animal Services her dog reactivity was so bad that I almost didn’t take her but I knew we were her only shot at being rescued. It’s important people understand that these dogs are WORTH being rescued. Alls they need is that ONE person who’s willing to take the chance on them.

📣KOA UPDATE🚨 If u missed our previous posts about Koa we pulled this boy 7 weeks ago and Dr V removed a portion of his lower jaw and successfully completed a reconstructive surgery. He spent 3 weeks with one of our amazing temp fosters, Donna, healing up and learning some basic commands. Then we got the wonderful news that he healed so well he didn’t need any additional surgeries and was medically cleared! 👏🏻👏🏻 KOA moved onto his foster home this week where he quickly adjusted and for right in with their black pack. Can you tell which one KOA is?!? He is now available to adopt! He’s a small boy only in the 30s, around a year old, very playful and active, extremely affectionate, good w/ dogs and children. Located in Haines City. PLEASE SHARE! let’s get him seen! He deserved his happily every after ❤️

📣CHESS UPDATE!!! Our boy got to leave the ICU today. Can we just admire how darn adorable he is! He’s settling into his weekend foster home nicely. He’ll go back to AVC for his second surgery on Tuesday. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts as he’s undergoing a series of complicated surgeries. 📣FREEDOM for Aelin!! IMPORTANT READ!! We were able to save one dog off this weeks Orange County Animal Services LC list. This gorgeous Corso landed on the euthanasia list due to her food aggression. As much as I would love for this post to be a solely happy one it’s not. We pulled her specifically bc we had a foster to adopt lined up. Well, we got ghosted yesterday when it came time to pick up Aelin from the shelter. With no place for her to go I had to take her to boarding. This is not an ideal situation at all! Having an XL breed that needs stimulation just moved into another kennel is not fair to her. This also prevents us from addressing her behavioral issues as she’s not in a home. This is the #1 reason I do not, nor will I ever pull dogs just to put them into boarding. This also puts us in a financial situation paying boarding costs we had not planned for.

Please SHARE! We will NOT rescue another dog until Aelin is in a foster/adopt home.

Few things i quickly learned about her yesterday- She’s incredibly SMART and eager to please. She knows sit, down, up and paw. Somebody at some point trained her. Her food aggression is manageable and once she’s a healthy weight it will subside. By the time I left her yesterday she was taking treats from my hand w/ out being snappy. She’s a typical Corso leery of new people, you will have to go slow and give her time to get used to you and adjust to a new environment. She’s listed at 3 years old, around 100lbs and still needs to gain an easy 25-30lbs more.

While I’m on this subject I’d also like to mention this. When we make posts YES you will see many people commenting that they will foster, or they will “take” the dog etc. I assure you I DO follow up with every single inquiry. 90% of these people comment and THATS IT. The other 10% that will actually message the page either won’t complete the application or aren’t a match for the dogs behavioral needs. ALOT of time and work goes on behind the scenes for us to pull a dog. If you don’t have FULL INTENTIONS on following through DO NOT COMMENT or INQUIRE!!! It’s REALLY SH*TTY to put us in this predicament and it’s only causing further stress on the dog.

📣CHESS UPDATE📣 Yesterday we walked by faith, today we rejoice in gratitude. First, let me start off by saying we are TRULY humbled by the amount of support we received! Alot of you shared Chess yesterday, donated & the majority that pledged sent xtra or even doubled/tripled the amount! This allowed us to fully cover Chess surgery today and possibly all of his second surgery. Collectively we raised $15,000 in just a few hours! I can’t begin to THANK everybody enough as this was a major financial burden lifted. What our little rescue community accomplished was nothing short of a miracle ❤️

As far as Chess’s surgery the doctor is very pleased with the results. The post op X-rays look good on the placement of the plates. He was in surgery for over 6 hours today and only the femur was completed. This was a lengthy, complex surgery and he didn’t want him under any longer to start on the pelvic breaks. He will remain in the ICU for monitoring and will be released tomorrow morning. He’ll return to AVC for his second surgery on Tuesday. He’s hoping to get the right and left pelvic breaks completed but if not he’ll need a third surgery on Thursday. Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping us get him on his way to a full recovery. This could not of been possible without the help of all of YOU! 🤲

🚨Chess UPDATE🚨 Please READ in entirety. Today I had to make a decision based in faith. I spent my morning doing phone consultations trying to find a surgeon that would even do this surgery. The ones that would were 15k and up. Triple what I had planned for. We were the only rescue that considered taking Chess, which left me with the decision to either let the shelter euthanize him or take on an extremely financial burden. Most of you know once i even semi commit to a dog I follow through. Chess is no different, so we pulled him. Now here is where my faith steps in. He is currently hospitalized at AVC. Dr. Samson will perform a 7 hour surgery tomorrow to repair 2 of his fractures on his right side. A pelvic and femur fracture that will involve plates and screw. This FIRST surgery is $7,809-$9,011 (invoice attached in pictures). He then will perform a SECOND surgery on Tuesday for the 3rd and 4th fractures on his left side. The cost of the second surgery will be around the same price as this one resulting in $14-16k costs. He then will have 2-3 months of cage rest and hopefully the last fracture will heal on its on, if not he’ll need a 3rd surgery. I can’t express this enough, WE REALLY NEED EVERYONES HELP HERE! Please If you PLEDGED yesterday or are able to contribute we need the first $7800 raised by tomorrow morning. If you are not able to donate that’s okay, please SHARE! There IS power in sharing! I DO believe we can get this done! Despite his awful condition Chess is a VERY sweet boy. He has an amazing temperament and just wants to be loved on. I have no doubt he’s probably somebody’s dog. 🚨🚨URGENT🚨🚨Chess was given a day extension to receive a rescue hold. Must be picked up by tomorrow or will be euthanized due to substantial injuries. Chess was seen hit by a car and his shelter X-rays reveal his has MULTIPLE FRACTURES IN PELVIS! He currently can NOT stand, walk or go to the bathroom with these injuries. Despite his condition he’s easily handled and friendly! I’m going to be VERY clear about this unless we can raise a minimum of 5k in pledges we will NOT be able to take him. This type of surgery needs to be done by a specialist and we do not have those amount of funds. Please do NOT pledge if you can’t honor this week. If we are able to take him his surgery would be scheduled as soon as possible. ☀️Please SHARE! The more eyes that see this post the more likely we can raise the funds. ☀️ If you have a specialist recommendation please DM us, our Vet does not do this kind of surgery. I know from experience this will range btw 5-9k☀️ We will also need a foster. He will be on cage rest afterwards and he cannot be animal tested until he’s healed. 🚨 NEEDS RESCUE PLACEMENT BY EOD TODAY (5:00pm) DUE TO MULTIPLE FRACTURES IN PELVIS**

Chess was found at the corner of Balboa and Pine Hills Rd after being Hit By a Car and taken to the VEC to spend the night. He does not have any signs of ownership and needs rescue placement by the end of today. He is unable to stand/move and needs to be seen at a full-service veterinary practice for treatment/surgery plan.

📣WILL BE EUTHANIZED TOMORROW📣Yet another Corso failed by humans will be put to sleep tomorrow if not rescued. Aelin –Impounded 1/19/25Aelin initially had a rescue commitment but after relaying the observation notes following a recent temperament assessment, they were unable to take. Posted once to rescue partners without any interest. Aelin poses a bite risk to staff and the public due to her sheer size/strength and extensive resource guarding with food tendencies with a willingness to bite with force
