What a Difference a Week Makes! ❄️➡️☔

Just over a week ago, we were enjoying beautiful snowy scenes—paws crunching through fresh powder and snowflakes everywhere. Now it’s all melted, and we’re back to that familiar muddy feeling underfoot!

Meet Shell – Our Newest Dog Lady! 🐶✨

We’re beyond excited to introduce Shell, whose passion for animals began with her very first dogs, Missy & Layla. These two pups brought constant laughter and a happy heart to Shell’s life, inspiring her to pursue a career with animals. A little encouragement from a friend led Shell into the veterinary world, and she’s never looked back!

Shell’s Fur-Family:

🐾 Piper the Staffie (7 years old) – Her loyal hiking buddy, best mate, and all-around superstar.

🐾 Tod the Pug/Chihuahua mix (7 years old) – A little grumpy at times, but full of love. Shell “inherited” Tod from a former client who couldn’t care for him anymore, and now he’s a treasured member of the family.

🐾 Wednesday the black cat (9 years old) – The queen of sass and side-eye. She occasionally allows pets when she’s feeling generous.

🐾 Ludo the ginger cat (3 years old) – A cuddly, gentle giant who greets everyone with warmth (and sometimes demands attention!).

Shell is thrilled to have joined The Dog Lady team and is already loving the opportunity to meet each dog’s unique personality. She finds it so rewarding when pups show their affection, and her background at the vets allows her to read animal body language and look after their well-being.

When she’s not out walking dogs, winning over stubborn kitties, or providing expert care, you’ll likely find Shell:

✨ Hiking in the mountains with friends (and sometimes their dogs!) – She loves being outdoors in nature, breathing in fresh air, and tackling new trails.

💻🤖 When AI Images Go… a Little Wild! 🐕👩

Sometimes, you ask for a lady dog trainer doing a virtual appointment — and instead, you get… this.

We love a bit of creativity, but we weren’t quite expecting a human body with a dog head! 😂

AI art can be incredible, but it also loves to throw in a few surprises. Just like training dogs, it’s all about patience, trial, and (sometimes hilarious) errors!

Let’s call this one a “ruff” draft. 🐾

Wishing Kathy the Best on Her Next Adventure!

Today marks Kathy’s final day with us, and it’s definitely a bittersweet moment.

For the past four years, she’s been a cornerstone of The Dog Lady, pouring her heart and dedication into every pup she cared for. We’re endlessly grateful for her hard work and the love she’s shown our furry friends. 🐶💖

Now, Kathy is off to expand her already thriving dog training business, Fantastic Canines & How to Train Them and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her next chapter! If you’re ever in need of expert dog training, Kathy’s your go-to.

Piper is one of our new Dog Lady, Shell’s dogs. She’s an official “good girl” and ready for any adventure! From conquering big walks with her mum to handling every challenge like a pro, Piper takes it all in her stride.

Although they had so much fun we are still always conscious of them getting too cold so we cut the walk a bit short and got them back in warm doggy robes to dry off and warm up ❤️

🐾 Tongue Out Tuesday! 🐾

It’s the perfect day to celebrate those adorable dog tongues! Whether they’re hanging out during a walk or lapping up water after a play session, your dog’s tongue is an amazing tool. Here are a few fun facts about those fabulous tongues:

👅 Cooling System: Unlike humans, dogs don’t sweat to cool down. Instead, they use their tongues to pant, which helps regulate their body temperature.

👅 Built-In Grooming Tool: A dog’s tongue has tiny, rough papillae that help them clean their fur and skin, similar to a cat’s tongue – though not quite as spiky!

👅 Tasting the World: Dogs have around 1,700 taste buds compared to our 9,000, but they’re experts at detecting fats and meats – their favorite flavors!

👅 Healing Power?: A dog’s saliva contains enzymes that can help clean wounds, but it’s not always best to let them lick injuries due to bacteria.

👅 Unique Prints: Just like human fingerprints, a dog’s tongue has a unique texture and pattern – no two are alike!

😍 This beauty here is Poppy and as you can see she’s one tired pooch at the beach on one of our famous “Beach Trips” (back during warmer weather).
