BIOGRAPHY: Traffic Chief (Colonial Affair) was bred in New York and raced by Barry K. Schwartz and trained by Mike Hushion. He competed in 12 races, earning $299,428, including wins in the Albany Stakes at Saratoga and he set a track record in the New York Derby at Finger Lakes. ACTT Naturally Founder Valerie Buck was Traffic Chief’s exercise rider. When he was 5 years old and it appeared he was no longer going to be competitive on the track, she offered to give him a home.
Traffic Chief is the founding member of ACTT Naturally. Over the past 19 years, Chief has been a kind but reliant leader for the dozens of horses that find their way here when their racing careers have ended, teaching them to be herd members and to speak their own language again. In addition, Chief has been participating in ACTT Naturally’s Hearts in Harmony equine facilitated therapy programs offered to veterans who are struggling through life. Chief loves lending his peaceful soul to the people who come to ACTT Naturally for healing.

Over the winter this cutie pie came to my friend’s farm in Florida where I was staying, for a lay-up from the track.
I kinda had a big crush on him.
He went back to the track but it was proven that he had no desire to be a racehorse.
So guess where he is now! 😍

For African Badge, the third home was the right place for him. ❤️
When Susan found African Badge, now known as Cairo, she had been in a challenging spot with riding due to some accidents involving her previous horse. Cairo, in need of a good home, had gone through two previous adoptions before Susan. He had been returned to the adoption center due to the unfortunate unexpected passing of his owner. After hearing his story and spending some quality time with him, Susan was certain that Cairo belonged with her.
“He needed a forever home, and I needed a horse to help me get over a fear of riding,” Susan explained. “It just felt right.”

The boys were ROCKSTARS today in our Hearts in Harmony program. We had a group of female veterans and some amazing moments. Thank you Long Shadows Charitable Foundation for hosting our group today.
Irish Chalice had his first day out in the population post racing career, post castration. He was gently corrected by Charlie (Past The Point) and told to F off by Coconut the pony, little Walter made some friend time for him. It’s so rewarding to let these former race horses get out among other horses, learn to speak their own language, and be a herd member.
Irish Chalice. (Kantharos) This is most likely the first time he’s had turn out since prior to going to train at the race track 2 years ago. We gave him a little sedation to keep him from getting too wild. He willl be gelded next week and eventually make his way into the herd. He’s such a handsome dude.
