If you’re enjoying a few drinks this long weekend we ask that you consider donating your empty alcohol containers to support our ongoing rescue efforts. We use the income generated from the return of empties to help with the expenses associated to helping animals in need (namely veterinary care and supplies).

Empties can be dropped off at either of our drop off locations in Ottawa at your convenience or you can email us to arrange a pickup.

If you’re interested in supporting the cats in our care, but don’t have empties to donate we hope you’ll consider:
🐾 Making a financial donation via e-transfer at [email protected] (pw: donate)
🐾 Making an in-kind donation or purchasing something off our amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/38Z7E8SX7O238?ref_=wl_share
🐾 Volunteering as an empties drop-off location or helping to collect, sort, and return empties

Oak and Birch are looking for a loving forever home together, could it be with you? 🏡🖤

Although they’re slow to warm up to new people once you gain their trust, they’ll welcome pets and especially love scritches. You’ll often find them snuggling, bird-watching or running around playing with cat nip toys.

Because they’re shy and startled by fast movements and loud noises they’re best suited to a quiet and calm home that is adult-only or with older children with previous cat experience.

Oak and Birch are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and have recently had dental cleanings and extractions. Their adoption fee is $350. If you’re interested in adopting them please fill out our online adoption application: https://www.theaveryfoundation.ca/adoption/adoption-application/ or send us a message if you have any questions.

Although not completely healed he is on the road to recovery and with his dedicated foster providing diligent care we’re certain he’ll be rejoining his siblings soon!

We’re so grateful for the excellent care provided by Cumberland Veterinary Hospital and to everyone who donated towards his care! Thanks to you we were able to cover the costs of his multiple veterinary visits and numerous medications.

It’s ! 🩺

Today is a purrfect reminder to prioritize our feline friends’ health. While cats might appear perfectly fine, they’re masters at hiding illnesses and regular check-ups are essential for their well-being!

What might seem like a small issue could be a sign of something more serious and regular vet visits can catch these issues early, making treatment easier and more effective. Cats also age faster than humans, so their health can change quickly!

Whether it’s vaccinations, dental care, or just a general check-up, it can make a huge difference in your feline friend’s life and help to keep them healthy, happy and by your side for years to come!

Cashew (F, 2.5 y) is a quiet and petite cat who has been patiently waiting for a loving forever home to call her own, could it be with you? 🏡

While she’s slow to warm up to new people once you gain her trust, she’ll seek you out for affection. She especially loves chin and butt scritches.

Cashew enjoys the company of other cats, and you’ll rarely find her alone. She would be happiest adopted with one of her feline foster siblings (Clove or Willow) or adopted into a home with another cat.

Cashew requires a patient adopter willing to dedicate time to her continued socialization. She is startled by loud noises and quick movements and is best-suited to an adult-only home with a quiet and calm environment.

If you’re interested in adopting Cashew, please apply online at: https://www.theaveryfoundation.ca/adoption/adoption-application/cats/ or send us a message if you have any questions.

We know the decision to rehome a pet is not made lightly and often times is made with the pet’s best interest in mind due to a change in their environment, an owner's circumstance etc. Unfortunately, due to the pet overpopulation crisis we’re facing many rescues aren’t in a position to take in owner surrenders leaving pet parents at a loss with how to proceed.

Recently, we saw a post by our friends at Community Alley Trappers about a resource to help families looking to rehome their pet(s). The Rehome program by Adopt a Pet helps you place your pet from your loving home directly to another without your pet having to enter a shelter. The program allows you to create a pet profile, review applications, meet adopters and finalize adoption.

We encourage anyone who may be looking to rehome their pet to explore this resource:

We believe that rehoming pets should be easy and stress free both for you and your pet. Our experts at Adopt a Pet have created a simple and reliable program to help you place your pet from your loving home directly to another.

***Donations urgently needed***
----
Update 1: Ebbs was seen yesterday evening at Cumberland Veterinary Hospital and a new treatment plan was drawn up. He'll be receiving three eye drops four times a day, an oral antibiotic with an anti inflammatory properties and probiotics to help with his gut health. We hope to see improvements in the coming days and will be continuing to follow up regularly with our veterinary team to adjust the treatment plan as needed.

----

Our poor sweet Ebbs is battling an eye infection. Despite seeking immediate veterinary care last Monday when the infection first appeared, it’s been persistent. He’s been isolated from his siblings and is wearing a cone to prevent him from further irritating his eyes and is receiving three medications three times a day. Despite this we haven’t seen much improvement, so we’ll be returning to the vet this evening for a follow up and to re-evaluate his treatment.

If you’re in a position to donate towards his care, it would be greatly appreciated. In addition, to our outstanding balance of $4693.21 at our primary affiliate clinic, the Glebe Pet Hospital we now also owe $427 to the Cumberland Vet Hospital for treating Ebbs.

Donations can be made via e-transfer to [email protected] (pw: donate).

If you’re looking for other ways to support our rescues efforts, we hope you’ll consider:
🐾 Donating your empties. We have drop off locations in Orleans and Manotick or are happy to arrange pick-ups (see pinned post for addresses).
🐾 Making an in-kind donation or purchasing an item off our Amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/38Z7E8SX7O238?ref_=wl_share

Russell (L) and Prescott (R) are now available to be reserved for adoption! Although this adorable duo is available for adoption individually, we would love to see them adopted together!

Prescott is the more outgoing of the pair and loves making friends with both humans and cats alike! And although, his brother Russell is shyer, you’ll never find him too far away from you! You’ll often find these boys wrestling or playing with their favourite toys – string or mice!

These two would make a great addition to any household!

Please note Russell and Prescott are only available for adoption together or to a home with another kitten or young feline who would make an appropriate playmate. Their adoption fee is $250/each or $450 pair. If you’re interested in adopting, please fill out our online adoption application: https://www.theaveryfoundation.ca/adoption/adoption-application/cats/ or send us a message with any questions.

We’re looking for experienced foster homes for a couple of our under socialized and semi-feral cats including Pancake (pictured).

While unsure of people, these cats have shown potential for socialization. With the right environment and a dedicated foster, we believe they could be prepared for adoption. We’re looking for quiet, adult-only homes with a spare room where these cats can be isolated while they adjust. They would need a loving and patient foster willing to invest time in their socialization.

While fostering we cover the costs of veterinary care and provide you with the supplies needed to care for your foster, transportation to and from the veterinary clinic, and ongoing support/coaching.

If you're interested in fostering, please fill out our online foster application: https://www.theaveryfoundation.ca/fostering/fostering-application/ or send us a message if you have questions.

Our Story

Founded in 2013, The Avery Foundation (TAF) is a non-profit animal rescue managed by a network of coordinators, volunteers, and carefully selected foster families. We are a small group of animal advocates working to change the lives of homeless animals.

Our mission is to help abandoned and vulnerable animals through foster care, rehabilitation, and adoption; to guide potential adopters in finding the best fit for their family; and to promote responsible pet ownership through humane education: specifically of the importance of routine veterinary care, spay/neutering and enrichment - ultimately creating a happy and healthy life for as many animals as possible.

Our volunteers work diligently to raise funds for the animals through events and fundraisers, with every dollar going towards medical bills, food, and supplies.
