These strong intelligent kitties are very vocal, are generally very healthy, and make wonderful family pets. These cats come in over three hundred different color combinations and are often referred to as a rainbow cat. The Oriental Shorthair was created in the 1950’s-1960 by cross-breeding these lines: Siamese, Shorthair, Russian Blue, and Abyssinian. Then, in the 1970’s, the longhair was created
by breeding an Oriental with a Balinese. They possess the Siamese build and personality. They are slim with a long, svelte body which can be as long as three feet, with long legs and tail. Orientals have Wedge-shaped faces, large ears and large, almond-shaped eyes. The Oriental Shorthair requires very minimal grooming, just a brush every now and then. The Oriental Longhair only requires being brushed once per week, and these cats are generally very healthy, living into their twenties. Many say that Orientals are very doglike and intelligent, and they learn new things very easily. An Oriental is very vocal and will purr a lot, as well. These curious kitties are full of energy and require physical activity, staying playful for years. They share the Siamese trait of needing and demanding attention from their humans. Orientals absolutely love to be around people. They are super affectionate and make wonderful family pets and it’s a guarantee if you love them, they will love you right back. The Oriental breed is very graceful and muscular. They can come in all possible colors and patterns. They are very curious by nature and love to explore and get into anything and everything. They have been known to even be able to open drawers, or dump out your purse to see what they can find. The oriental breed will play with anything they can get their paws on. They crave attention and affection, always wanting to please their humans. They tend to get very said if they are ignored so need to go to families with a lot of attention to give.
