We had the unfortunate situation where our last twofer, Minerva and Gala was going to be returned. It was a situation where the adopter did not fully think about the commitment that it was taking on two cats. We asked all the proper questions and even did a home visit. Everyone involved ensured us that the girls were being adopted forever. Unfortunately within those 3 months they were then dumped on the now ex boyfriend who said he did not have enough time for the cats. This is also a breach of our contract that states you cannot rehome adopted pets without at least contacting us. Until people understand that pets are a lifetime commitment these situations will continue. Pets are not a project or situation to take lightly with the chance of giving up on them.

Thankfully our friends at Sammys Hope were capable of taking in Minerva & Gala. They have settled in nicely and will be available for adoption soon.

Unfortunately the day has come to deliver the news we hoped we’d never have to - Holisticat’s doors are closed, indefinitely.

After an extremely challenging year both personally and professionally for myself and Toni, we knew that running the rescue at the capacity we were used to was no longer possible. We spent many years juggling our own lives with countless sick fosters, bottle babies, TNR and the very toughest cases we could find. We found ourselves drowning and overwhelmed so many times, but always found a way to provide quality care and persevere with the help of our treasured rescue friends, incredible adopters, and devout supporters.

Due to professional differences, we left our location in South Brunswick at the beginning of 2021. We ensured that all animals at this location were adopted, transferred, or placed in permanent foster. It was emotionally difficult knowing this would limit us greatly, but unfortunately cutting these ties was a change necessary to maintain my mental health.

We continued to rescue on a limited basis at our Avenel location through 2021 until we were unceremoniously pushed out by management at the end of the year, and it was made clear that our mission was no longer welcome. We have now cut ties with this location, and again adopted out, transferred, or found permanent foster placement for each and every one of our adoptables and long-term special needs residents.

As some of you may know, Toni and I dedicated many years to working as veterinary technicians at both of these locations, and the pandemic as well as many other factors have been extremely difficult in our careers. We both continue to work in our field at new practices, and hope that one day we will be able to bring Holisticat back to its former glory. We know that our experience and expertise has been a valuable asset to feline rescue, and it makes it that much harder for us to part with this facet of our lives.

We will continue to provide care for our permanent special needs fosters, lifelong. They are safe, happy, and we will continue to fund their care. We are happy to provide occasional updates on them in their new lives for as long as anyone is interested in as well.

We are so thankful for everyone who has helped us on this journey, in so many ways. We hope this isn’t the end for Holisticat, so we won’t say goodbye, just see you later.
