Kai (6mo) is the only dog in 13 years to do a full training session with a bone in her mouth 😂 Her training session was 30m here's 30 sec of it.

Name: Cassius
Age/Breed: Almost 6mo Rottie
Juvie Term: 3 weeks
Why He's Here: Ecollar training, tighter obedience, confidence building, life experience and few typical Rottie pup things
Owner: Awesome! I just trained her other Rottie Brutus
First Thought: He looks like a mix of his sisters Sage/Kai who are currently here too
The Good Stuff: Great in his crate, dog and peep friendly, knows his EK9T basics and his coat swag is on point 😃
Training Extra: Cassius is the last of the Rottie siblings to arrive (Kai was first and Sage second) - hope my admin assistant has their resume updated 🤬

Hopefully Kai's owner won't notice that she's down an ear 😬

What about Maeve after the death of Dutch? This is a question I get asked a lot after the loss of a pet from my clients. How do they make sure not to mess up the living pet? For those of you who aren't clients let's begin...

- Nothing changes! MG is NOT responsible for my sadness (nor is she responsible for my happiness) and I love her way too much to put that heavy type of s**t on her
- MG and I keep doing what we've been doing when Dutch was alive
- The rules and lifestyle stay the same (that goes more for me than for her)
- I stay the same owner she's known for 4 years. We train, we go on walks, we go off leash and she runs errands with me
- I NEVER cry around her, NEVER.
- The best thing I can do for MG and for her first time being solo is keep business as usual for her
- The thing most dog owners don't understand is that if you put your emotions on your dog sooner or later the rawness of losing the other pet improves. So as you come out of it and begin to feel better your other dog has unfortunately been sucked into your emotional black hole. There's a reason why so many dogs "change" after the other dog dies, most dog owners are unaware that they've actually caused those issues so be on guard, your dog depends on you!

Hope this helps some of you!

The Death of a Pet

It's been 2 weeks since Dutch's promotion and I finally have time to answer the many questions I've received about how I'm handling his death (peeps asking for advice) and share how I've seemed to move past it pretty quick especially after 8 years and losing Dutch and Moka basically a year apart so let's begin because the awesome definitely outweighs the sad...

- I believe in something after this life so the way I see it Dutch, Moka, Jedi, Nahome, MG (just being real) and a couple other dogs after them will have arrived at the destination before me. Nothing better than showing up to a place where there are familiar faces, especially familar faces of those you love and haven't seen in awhile 😃
- I have ZERO regrets, we would do more in a week than most other dogs get to do in their lifetime! I don't wish I would have taught him more, walked him more, took him more places, pet him more or have been a better dog owner. I went through that with Nahome (I've shared that experience many times) and I promised to never rob another dog of it's quality of life again. In other words guilt and could have/would have/should have is a bitch to live with so I make sure that never becomes an issue.
- I still have Maeve who needs me acting like me and not like some sad, depressed shell of myself. That goes for client dogs who were here as well during that time - I have responsibilities
- I take 36 hours to mourn and then it's time to move on, not move on as to forget but move on as life stops for no one or nothing
- If I didn't stay the course and had myself a pity party Dutch would be so disappointed because that's not who I was to him for 8 years
- I REFUSE to let his death overshadow our AWESOME life together!
- He was my first non behavioral issue Rottweiler, he was the SWEETEST boy
- He completely changed the direction of EK9T. He made me develop a puppy raising program for him that morphed into a puppy class that as of today has had over 400+ puppies take the class and 375 of them have come back for board and train (pretty crazy if you ask me)
- He forced me to learn as much as I could about epilepsy and in return we were able to help many other dogs/owners with their epilepsy journey
- Do I miss him? Of course I do! I think about him hourly and I always bring him up in conversation but like I said earlier our awesome 8 years together is the focus of my thoughts and conversations, and not the 3 days leading up to his promotion and his physical body no longer being here.
- What would be even worse than his death is not to be able to share his life (as in it never happened). The 8 incredible years together makes the pain of his death worth it tenfold.

I hope this helps some of you!

Name: Kai
Age/Breed: Almost 6mo Rottie
Juvie Term: 3 weeks
Why She's Here: Ecollar training, tighter obedience, confidence building, socialization, lifestyle plan and a few other par for the course s**tty Rottie pup behavior stuff
Owner: Very motivated to tame this savage beast and get her ecollar trained
First Thought: You're a sassy little s**t
The Good Stuff: Excellent in her crate, dog and peep friendly, has a good understanding of her EK9T basics and her coat swag is on point 😎
Training Extra: Kai is the first of 3 siblings (Kai, Sage, Cassius) coming in for their board and trains this week (I need to fire my admin assistant 🤬). They all have different owners but I figured why not get them all in at the same time if I had the space - that idea sounded much better in my head 4 months ago 😂
