There is a HUGE need in controlling over population of domestic animals that we can do something about. in 2013 I got involved trying to help animals get adopted and save them from being euthanized (put to sleep) in local and surrounding kill shelters in 2014 I started Saving Grace animal rescue. MAYBE your like me and cant adopt anymore animals BUT want to help somehow. We can help just by shar

ing their pictures and info, fostering, in transportation, donations to help care for the animals and their vetting. Rescues need volunteers, food, litter, cleaning products ,money to support the spay neuter programs. MOST important DONT SHOP < ADOPT! For every animal Bought from a breeder, could have saved a life in a shelter. When you adopt from a rescue you actually save 2 lives. The one you adopt and the one taking its place. Please help as you can.

Has unexpected cold weather ever hit your area and you wanted to quickly help a stray/community cat keep warm?

Here's a quick Emergency Outdoor Cat Shelter Idea for community cats from Neighborhood Cats:
----------------------------
(1) Take the cardboard box and tape all the seams shut with duct tape. Cardboard is actually a good insulation.

(2) Wrap the box completely with a tarp or trash bags, making as few seams as possible. Secure onto the box with duct tape, liberally and tightly wrapping the tape around the sides of the box and sealing any seams in the plastic. This will make the shelter waterproof.

(3) Cut a doorway in one of the shorter sides of the box approximately 6 inches by 6 inches, leaving the bottom of the doorway a few inches above the bottom of the box to prevent flooding. Use duct tape to secure the loose plastic around the opening you just made.

(4) Place STRAW inside the box, filling it up to the bottom of the doorway in front and a little higher towards the back. The cats will gain added warmth by burrowing into the straw.

If possible, place your cardboard shelter beneath something that will shield it, like a porch or tree. Raise it off the ground a few inches by placing it on a pallet, bricks or something similar. Weigh the shelter down with a heavy rock or a few bricks, but nothing heavy enough to crush the roof.

🚩Once the cold weather crisis has passed, replace the emergency shelter with a more permanent one.

I am so outraged at this sick horrible act. I hope she is made an example of and punished to the fullest. Notice she worked for social services! It takes a seriously sick individual to do this to a helpless animal. This needs attention so it's not ignored
The one lady was her landlord and found the dog. It has been reported
The other speaks for itself

CONTINUING AVIAN MORTALITY EVENT IN NORTHERN/NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA

In late May, wildlife managers in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky began receiving reports of sick and dying birds with eye swelling and crusty discharge, as well as neurological signs. More recently, additional reports have been received from Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. While the majority of affected birds are reported to be fledgling common grackles, blue jays, European starlings, and American robins, other species of songbirds have been reported as well. No definitive cause(s) of illness or death have been determined at this time. No human health or domestic livestock and poultry issues have been reported.

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) has been monitoring the extent of the event in the Commonwealth since late May. The Virginia areas affected by the mortality event include the following counties and cities: Alexandria, Arlington, Clarke, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Manassas, Prince William, Shenandoah, Warren, and Wi******er. Between May 23 and June 30, the DWR received over 1,400 reports of sick or dying birds from the affected areas. Approximately 450 of the reported cases described eye issues and/or neurological signs.

The natural resource management agencies in the affected states and the District of Columbia, along with the National Park Service, are continuing to work with diagnostic laboratories to investigate the cause(s) of this event. Those laboratories include the USGS National Wildlife Health Center, the University of Georgia Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study, the University of Pennsylvania Wildlife Futures Program, and the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

The following infectious agents have not been detected in any birds tested, based on results received to date: Salmonella and Chlamydia (bacterial pathogens); avian influenza virus, West Nile virus and other flaviviruses, Newcastle disease virus and other paramyxoviruses, herpesviruses and poxviruses; and Trichomonas parasites. Additional microbiology, virology, parasitology, and toxicology diagnostic testing is ongoing.

Birds congregating at bird feeders and bird baths can transmit diseases to one another. Therefore, the state and District agencies recommend the following standard precautions:
• Cease feeding birds in the affected areas until this wildlife morbidity/mortality event subsides ;
• Clean feeders and bird baths with a 10% bleach solution (one part bleach mixed with nine parts water), rinse with water, and allow to air dry;
• Avoid handling birds unless necessary. If you do handle them wear disposable gloves. If picking up a dead bird, place an inverted plastic bag over your hand to avoid direct contact with the bird; and
• Keep pets (including pet birds) away from sick or dead wild birds as a standard precaution.
• If at any time you find multiple dead birds in your yard over a short period of time, regardless of whether or not there is an ongoing bird mortality event, it is prudent to clean feeders and bird baths with a 10% bleach solution.

If you encounter sick or dead birds, in Virginia, please submit an event report at https://dwr.virginia.gov/wildlife/diseases/bird-mortality-reporting-form/. To dispose of dead birds, place in a plastic bag, seal, and discard with household trash or alternatively bury them deeply. DWR will alert the public when the mortality event has concluded and bird feeding can be resumed in the affected areas. Additional information will be shared as diagnostic results are received.

FINALLY after 7 years of wondering how a dog ended up that I rescued after being hit by a car and spent so much time with his vetting, working with him and his foster Pam Long, diligently trying to find a perfect home for him, cause he had some abuse issues to work around, that ended up in Utah with Best friends Animal society, FINALLY after 7 years of following till I couldnt get more info, Finally heard back today that after 4 years at that rescue, he got adopted to a family in Arizona! THAT was the only animal That I rescued that I did not get to find a home as it was took out of my hands. It has bothered me for 7 years with no closure. I am the kind of person that just NEEDS closure and how things end. Im so thankful I can put to rest those feelings. May God Bless the family that gave Lazarus home. I pray he gets to live a happy peaceful life.
Pam Poston Spent a lot of time trying to help place lazarus and has since met all her furbabies at the rainbow bridge. A special lady for sure. You are missed Pam Poston. We shared a deep compassion for animals, as many of us do. You have to have that to do rescue
