Last week, we asked if anyone had cat traps they were no longer using if we could have them. Kelly responded by donating two cat traps! Two brand new, still-in-the- box cat traps! Thank you so much, Kelly.

We planned to start trapping cats 10 days ago, but it didn't work out. We set another start date but the weather isn't cooperating. When the time is right, we are ready to go! Our goal is to spay/neuter eight adult cats and three 6-month old kittens. That's a lot of litter prevention.😉

Courtesy Post:
Two years ago, a cat was dumped on Highway 83 and the owner drove away. The cat was pregnant. The momma cat and babies stayed in the area and were fed by the nearby homeowner.

Jamarcus is one of the kittens from the abandoned litter. He has lived his life as an outside cat. He is very friendly, very sweet and so talkative he seems to carry on a conversation.

Most of Jamarcus' tail is missing - no one knows what caused the injury. He has a lump on his lower back and may have back soreness because of the accident that amputated his tail.

Jamarcus needs a new home. We know it's a longshot, but is there the perfect person willing to adopt Jamarcus as an outside cat? He gets along well with cats and people. He hasn't been around dogs. Jamarcus is a wonderful boy that needs to relocate to a new home/country yard.

Interested in knowing more about Jamarcus? Text 308-530-1516.

What happens when someone needs short-term fostering for their pet due to a medical emergency? Semi drivers have accidents on I-80 . . . the elderly sometimes are hospitalized without prior notice . . . We have heard stories of people REFUSING surgery because they didn't have pet care in place.

Paws-itive Partners has a program in a place called "Urgent Short-Term Pet Care Program". The short-term foster parents in this program are the HEART of this program. They selflessly care for a stranger's pet for a short-time while Paws-itive Partners financially provides food/cat litter and other necessities.

If this sounds like a call to your values, your heart and it makes sense with your time and home set-up, we would LOVE to talk to you about applying to be a short-term foster. Please call 308-529-2719 to discuss further. READY to apply? The Foster Application is ATTACHED in the COMMENTS below.

Here's your feel good story to start your week.

After 8 months of being lost, Apollo has been FOUND!!!! Apollo went missing on May 23rd from the 900 block of East 4th when his owners took him to a friend's house to seek shelter for the tornado warning. During the tornado warning Apollo managed to get out. One of our members lived across the alley and assisted the owners with trying to locate him by creating them a poster, walking around searching and monitoring their feeding station. The member kept encouraging them and insisting that he will be found, just not give up. There were a lot of sightings of Apollo during that time and the member kept monitoring their feeding station but Apollo continued to evade everyone. Fast forward 2 days shy of Apollo being gone for 8 months, the member's husband came in from filling the bowl at the feeding station and commented that a new ginger cat was at the bowl. He was leary of the husband and meowed, but didn't run off. The member didn't think much of it because the neighborhood has a large population of ginger cats but when the husband made a comment that the cat had white feet and more white on the tail than others, the member immediately thought of Apollo and went outside to investigate. The cat was still eating. He meowed some and allowed her to pet him. She was pretty sure it was Apollo, but he was kinda dirty and had crusty eyes and ears and seemed indifferent when she called him Apollo. She took a few photos to compare to what was given to her by the owners. Before she could attempt to pick him up one of the male neighborhood ginger cats came up to the bowl and chased Apollo off. The member went and compared the photos and it was 1000% Apollo! He had returned to where he went missing! The cold snap was probably too much for him and he wanted to go home. The member contacted his owners to let him know and sent photos to confirm he was indeed Apollo. His owner immediately started looking for Apollo. It took a couple more days but when his owner was at the location that Apollo went missing at the same time Apollo was there, Apollo walked right up to his owner and surrendered. Welcome home Apollo!!

***COURTESY POST***

Indie, a true Christmas present (born on Christmas Day) is looking for a new home. He is a 2 yr old Dalmatian/GSP mix. He is not neutered but has an appointment on Feb 14th to get his annual shots and fixed at Westfield Animal Clinic. Indie is good with kids and others, is kennel trained, potty trained, could use some work on the leash. Unknown how he does with cats. He is timid of other dogs at first but warms up. He is not aggressive at all towards other dogs. Indie is a HUGE cuddler and would do best in a home with another dog. Rehoming because he needs a dog buddy to be with him when his humans are not home. He would come with all his toys, rest of his treats, kennel, dog dish, leash, collar and harness. If interested, call 308-870-3679.

Tonight is going to be the coldest of this arctic blast. If you haven't brought your critters inside or secured adequate shelter, it's not too late to make sure they are safe tonight.

It is winter and we are in yet another arctic blast. Rescues and organizations shouldn’t have to put out pleas regarding pets and being outside in this weather but as long as people continue to let their pets remain outside and not give them adequate shelter and care, these pleas will continue.

The best option will always be allowing your pets indoors during cold weather. Older pets and babies should be inside when temperatures drop below 40 degrees and everyone should be inside when it hits 20 degrees. If wind chills drop the air to these temps or below, they need to come inside. Hypothermia, frostbite and death occur within minutes when temps and windchill get to and below freezing. If allowing your pets inside is not an option, you can do the following to make sure they will be safe and warm in this weather:

• Make sure dog shelters are made of solid wood with a flap on the opening. Plastic kennels do not keep the cold air out and do not stay warm.
• If you are caring for cats, shelters can be purchased or made from Styrofoam coolers filled with straw and/or a combination of coolers and totes and filled with straw. There are a lot of tutorials out there on how to make cat shelters.
• The opening of a shelter should face away from the wind.
• Fill the shelter with straw. Do not use blankets or hay as they absorb moisture and freeze, turning the shelter into an ice box and freezing the animal to death.
• Make sure they have fresh water. Water bowls will freeze. Utilize a heated water bowl or other means to keep the water from freezing such as a pinch of sugar in the water; placing the bowl in sunlight; placing hand warmers or microwavable pads underneath; use deep narrow bowls; use dark bowls to absorb the sunlight; place a couple ping pong balls in the water to slow freezing and sink a bowl into a Styrofoam box for insulation.

Make sure your animals stay dry and out of the wind during the arctic blast. If your animal likes to play or go for walks in the cold weather, monitor their ears and toes while outside as they are easily susceptible to frost bite quickly. Keep a towel with you and check between toes often for ice build up and clean off their feet. When they come inside, dry off their feet and stomachs immediately. Use of coats, sweaters and booties will help them stay warm and safe while outside.

A few days ago, the Watson family lost their home to a devastating fire. Thankfully, all humans and animals escaped safely.
Today, Paws-itive Partners got to make a special delivery to the Watsons pets. Shotgun and Chaos received food dishes, collars, chew toys, leashes, treats and 90 lbs of dog food. The chickens received 90 lbs of feed and a heated water bowl in their "foster coop."😂
The Watsons were so appreciative and we had fun. Today was an example of what we love to do -- helping those who need our help.

Bella has been missing since Friday at 2:00 PM. The wind blew the door open and Bella escaped. Missing from the northwest part of North Platte, but has been seen by Westfield and Tyler Court. That means Bella has crossed the railroad tracks and could be anywhere.
Bella is very timid and probably afraid to approach anyone.
If you see Bella, please call Hope at 308-530–6871 immediately.
