Statement from Janet Testerman, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center

After the flooding of Hurricane Helene, many of our East Tennessee and Western North Carolina neighbors have been affected by the storm’s destruction, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their homes, loved ones and their pets. As the closest animal shelter to the devastation, Young-Williams Animal Center is working with nine of these counties so far to transport and distribute much-needed pet food, crates, toys, cleaning agents, kitten formula and other supplies. The shelter also is utilizing our foster network and animal transport ability to take in cats and dogs to help impacted shelters make room for lost animals or animals who need temporary housing until they can be reunited with their families.

Numerous people have reached out asking how to help. If you’ve EVER considered adopting or are ready to add a four-legged family member, adoptions are currently FREE.

Young-Williams Animal Center’s Bissell “Empty the Shelters” event, occurring now through Oct. 15, is critical to our ability to help these devastated areas.

 …this handsome young Australian Shepherd, mix boy, is all vetted and ready to find his new family, .He is about a year old, seems to be house trained, very good with other dogs,, very sweet and playful.

This is the first intake I have had in many years, so i’m hoping the adoption process is like riding a bicycle.
This handsome Aussie boy showed up at my house and has never been reclaimed.
He is very young, 1 to 2 years old… he knows a few commands… Extremely sweet, playful and great with other dogs !

Gabe and Lizzie‘s family are missionaries and will be relocating to Cambodia and will need to find new homes ASAP. If you are interested in this sweet older pair, please let me know.
Lizzie is typically very calm and always very sweet but loves greeting new people without regard for personal space initially. Once she greets she will come up for love but respects the space the person desires (eg if you want her in your lap, she’s there, if you want 10ft of space, she is unoffended). She is an indoor dog but loves sun bathing and being outside. She is not great on a leash because she wants to explore all the things. When she has gotten out of the door she stays close and doesn’t run away (surprisingly considering her leash habits). She is great with men, women and children.

She is very healthy though she does need her glands expressed from time to time. This could change with diet but Gabe’s system doesn’t do well with change. Lizzie likes to sing along with you while you play the harmonica or howl. Lizzie has an appointment for annual vaccines on 4/16 she has done great for in home sitters and at an in home boarding company. Lizzie is approximately 6 years old (7 summer 2024)

Gabe

Gabe is very very calm and sweet, the perfect couch companion! He sleeps most the day and *loves* pets & belly rubs. He loves to find wherever the cushiest place is and snooze. He is also great with men, women and older children. In true beagle drama, he yells at you if you try to pick him up or touch him in the wrong way. He is sensitive to food changes and shows some mild signs of achiness in the cold. We crate him at night because he is prone to accidents (but only at night, not while left alone for 12 hours during the day 🧐). Gabe is the perfect pet for someone who wants a pal to help them relax! He is appropriately 7/8 year old beagle (estimated to be 4 fall 2020) without any known health issues aside from being a little plump.
