Statement from Janet Testerman, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center
After the flooding of Hurricane Helene, many of our East Tennessee and Western North Carolina neighbors have been affected by the storm’s destruction, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their homes, loved ones and their pets. As the closest animal shelter to the devastation, Young-Williams Animal Center is working with nine of these counties so far to transport and distribute much-needed pet food, crates, toys, cleaning agents, kitten formula and other supplies. The shelter also is utilizing our foster network and animal transport ability to take in cats and dogs to help impacted shelters make room for lost animals or animals who need temporary housing until they can be reunited with their families.
Numerous people have reached out asking how to help. If you’ve EVER considered adopting or are ready to add a four-legged family member, adoptions are currently FREE.
Young-Williams Animal Center’s Bissell “Empty the Shelters” event, occurring now through Oct. 15, is critical to our ability to help these devastated areas.
With the influx of misplaced animals, foster families have never been more crucial. Please visit our foster site to sign up.
If you would like to donate supplies, you may bring them to our Division Street location. Another fast and easy way to donate items is through our Amazon at young-williams.org/wishlist. We also have a hurricane donation option on our website in the dropdown list if you would prefer to send monetary support.
We are so thankful for our community’s support and willingness to always step up to help during a emergency and whenever there are animals in need.
Our normal operations will remain unchanged.
