"I want a puppy, but it has to be a girl"......
Why?????
Why do we constantly get requests for female puppies?
The most common answer from the potential new puppy owner.... "They are easier to house train!"
The hardest to train dogs are actually the oldest ones! Not the puppies. Getting a puppy (When talking Chihuahuas I would suggest between 11 weeks & 16 weeks) is the most easiest to train of any age regardless of their gender! Simply because they most likely have not started their bad habits, they have not fully developed their hormones and testosterone which is one of the main causes for marking and territorial behavior.
Generally, both genders make excellent companions. Males may be more affectionate, while females can be more independent.
What you actually should be asking is....
"How old is the happy healthy puppy you have available, and has this puppy been raised in a clean home environment?"
In my experience of training and having Chihuahuas in my home life.......Boys are far more willing to please and usually more jovial, girls tend to be more independent BUT - It all depends on their start in life and how you raise them.
Some insight.....
Talking about my Chihuahuas
- Ive had 4 litters this year
- For a combined total of 7 puppies
- 5 of those puppies are boys
- All 7 puppies have beautiful temperaments
- They are healthy, happy, raised in a positive and clean environment
If you are getting a puppy at 12 weeks, which one would you choose?
Whichever puppy you are willing to put the time and effort into continuing their life long training - Don't box yourself in without considering the boy!
