Behold - an itty bitty baby fire-bellied toadlet. 🥹 We'll have some of these adorable babies available once we get them grown past the needing-micro-foods stage! They make awesome pets - they're fun to watch, don't need a ton of room, and are easy to care for.

I've seen a fair bit of interest in this species lately. Maybe one to add to the zoo? 🤔 Super reasonable husbandry though I hear their lifespan isn't very long.

One of the hardest parts about working with a wide range of animals is that with varying lifespan, age, and health history, you experience loss fairly frequently. In cases where an animal lives out a long happy life and you are able to notice decline and emotionally prepare yourself, it can be a little easier.

We lost Snorkel, our beloved mata mata turtle, Monday night only hours after reaching out to our vet to get him seen because of sudden concerning lethargy and buoyancy issues.

Mata matas are notoriously difficult to keep and we already knew when he came to us that he wasn't growing at a normal rate and had shell health issues, but he had done so well with us. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement - we hoped to have him for many many years and watch him grow into a huge, magnificent fish-slurping river monster. He was a charmingly clumsy, sassy fellow who I could sit with for hours while tidying his tank in the evenings. His tank is still set up of course, but I can't fathom it being anything but Snorkel's Home. My heart hurts thinking of tending to it without him.

While we wish it was for much longer, we're so glad that we got the opportunity to spoil him here. 😔💕

Our adorable fire-bellied toads are now parents! 🐸 We have little bitty free-swimming tadpoles. They are so cute, and start out surprisingly large considering how small the adults are!

This gorgeous plated lizard joined our crew over the weekend! We haven't settled on a name for her yet - our male's name is Chevda. We are hoping we might end up with plated babies, since they are so infrequently captive bred! Virtually all in the pet trade are wild caught imports.

Earlier this year, Nathan and I road-tripped to Utah for a video collaboration with Clint's Reptiles - I'm thrilled with how this video turned out given that we are not put together "in front of the camera" people. 😂 I was also 33 weeks pregnant at the time, so our baby girl Katelyn technically made a stealthy appearance!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us at yesterday's Nebraska Reptile Breeder's Expo! We had a wonderful time, and appreciate each and every sale! I officially have less than 3 weeks left til my due date with our daughter, so next expo we may have a very small assistant with us. 😊
