Did you know that yesterday is known as "Quitter's Day" because research indicates that almost a quarter of adults who made resolutions are already not following through with them by the 2nd Friday in January? One thing we know is that...Dachshunds don't quit!
What is something, good or bad, that your dachshund is obsessed with doing?

According to a recent survey, 15% of Americans polled said that one of their resolutions was related to weight loss. How are you doing with your New Year's resolution(s)?

We were saddened to learn that Delilah, a former CCDR foster and "spokesdog", passed away suddenly last week. She was extremely loved by her former and adoptive family (who have all kept in touch), as well as everyone who met her.

Delilah was surrendered to CCDR in 2017 when she was 6 yrs old and having mobility issues and her former family could not afford back surgery. We receive numerous surrenders due to this reason, and CCDR will provide the care these dogs need when the dogs are a candidate for surgery and we have a qualified foster home to provide the care they need.

We placed Delilah into an experienced foster home and started to prepare for her to have surgery, only to find out from our vet that she was not a good candidate for surgery. We purchased custom-fit wheels for Delilah from Eddie's Wheels for Pets and proceeded to provide therapy, while her foster home ended up adopting her (that also happens numerous times with foster dogs!). Delilah was a very lucky gal and, although she continued to wobble, her walking did improve to the point of not requiring the use of her wheels.

Delilah was a spirited and spunky gal, and too stubborn to stay down. She will be greatly missed! Delilah has been a spokesdog for downed dachshunds on several of our marketing materials and at events in PA, and you will find her pictured on the donations page of our website (https://www.c2cdr.org/donate).

If you do stop by our donations page to take a look at Delilah, proudly posing after she received her custom-made wheels, please consider giving a donation in her memory, towards future foster dogs in need of back surgery, wheels or physical therapy...all of which CCDR provides for foster dogs in need of that extensive and expensive care.

Our condolences go out to all who loved Delilah!!! Here are a few pictures, before and after we brought Delilah into CCDR and when she was getting measured for her wheels.

Dolly had a few good weeks, where she was playful and eating and acting normally and gaining weight; however, this week began with 3 days visiting the vet for diagnostic testing and observation after she became ill again last weekend. We have no certain diagnosis for what is specifically causing Dolly's problems, but three days of bloodwork, an ultrasound, x-rays, IV fluids, and medications have added another $1946.56 to her veterinary care tab. We're so thankful that Leader Heights Animal Hospital provides the rescue with a 10% discount to help offset the full expense of some of Dolly's care. Thank you to Dr. Ruszala and team for quickly tending to Dolly's needs! And thank you to our supporters who donate to help CCDR afford the medical care that our foster dogs require. Please keep Dolly in your thoughts for recovery!

Dolly and her sister, Lily, were surrendered to Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue (CCDR) in June (2024) after their owner went into assisted living. CCDR pays for all the veterinary care our foster dogs need. Since June, we have supported the following care for Dolly and Lily:

Dolly needed a dental cleaning for Grade 3 Dental Disease and she also had surgery to fix double Cherry Eyes. Recently, Dolly fell ill and went to the vet a few times for the diagnosis of Pancreatitis. Lily has a Grade 5 out of 6 heart murmur, so she required a cardiologist visit to determine she has Advanced Degenerative Valve Disease. And CCDR pays for the prescription medication to “treat” Lily’s heart condition.

All of their basic and extra care adds up!!!
$1517.48 – Dolly pre-surgical bloodwork, dental cleaning, surgery
$819.00 – Cardiology evaluation for Lily
$455.40 – Dolly & Lily intake exams, w/ cardio bloodwork for Lily
$309.15 – Heart meds for Lily
$385 – Dolly & Lily sick visit
$642.03 – Dolly sick visit #2
$109.93 – Dolly follow-up sick visit

= $4,237.99 Total charges…and that’s for only two dogs, within 3 months!

Thankfully, Dolly is on the mend and we will continue to provide her and Lily with the care they need! CCDR has supported 13 other new fosters this year and we have 5 additional longer-term fosters, some of whom we’ve supported since 2017 and 2019.

CCDR relies heavily on the generosity of donors to support care for all of our foster dogs. Please consider making a donation to help offset these and future veterinary expenses!

CCDR started taking the "CCDR" Wienermobile* to rescue events 15 years ago. And, after all those years, our donation fee for souvenir photos is STILL $5! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.143108295395&type=3
*Our wienermobile was purchased by Rich Werner, the organizer of the Loreal BYDIWIT (Because Your Dog Is Worth It Too) event in NJ. Rich was a repeat CCDR adopter, and supporter of many rescue organizations. Rich used to loan the wienermobile to CCDR for events and, after Rich passed away, CCDR was the heir apparent to inherit the wienermobile. We remain grateful for Rich's support and generosity!!!
Our wienermobile only goes out to a limited number of events per year, so be sure to come see us when it's on the road again!

On the Road for Rescue-don't miss the Wienermobile on its limited Mid-Atlantic area tour.
