BETA continues to help and be the voice for the animals of Beirut.

Four years have passed, 1’461 days since what has been described to be one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history hit our beloved Beirut.

The 2020 explosion killed 218 people, injured more than 6500 and displaced about 300’000 people from their homes.

The victims’ families’ quest for truth and justice have not yet been answered, Lebanese authorities have shamelessly tampered and hampered the course of the investigation and continue to do so till this day…

We at BETA stand in solidarity with the people of Beirut in these heartbreaking and challenging times, we remain committed to help the animals of the port and keep the hope, the faith that we as Lebanese will overcome the pain and immense loss.

Our hearts go to the families of the victims.

🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗘 🚨

4 years old female golden retriever we named Beverly was spotted suffering from a clear lower body issue.

Beverly was rushed to the nearest partnered animal vet hospital where she underwent all necessary tests and exams.

Her ni***es were filled with milk, tests showed that she had recently given birth.

She is scheduled to be spayed in a couple of weeks we are giving her body time to properly heal.

Abandoned, her puppies snatched from her to be sold, she was left to suffer.

Her behind looks the way it does from being confined to a small cage where she literally sat in her waste, her fur has literally falling off…

Beverly stayed in the neighborhood where she was abandoned, desperately roaming the streets looking and hoping to find her little ones !

She was diagnosed with a sensitive digestive system, her body doesn’t handle dry food, which is why her lower body looks the way it does. She was put on a special diet for the time being.

Beverly is sweet, friendly and extremely loving, her physical appearance will soon go back to normal and we are hoping that with the right medication and diet her intestines will go back to normal as well.

She didn’t deserve to be treated this way, no mother should have to suffer and loose sight of their little one !

Beverly we’ve got you, soon enough we hope to find you the best home to call your own !

Our friends at BETA - Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals need our help now more than ever.

Any amount will help with their mission.

KNOCK KNOCH THIS IS NOT A JOKE

With the conflict intensifying in the South of Lebanon, and talks of war amplifying we are worried for our animals, worried the fight will come knocking at our door once more.

For many months now, we’ve been tirelessly preparing for the worst, only to find that each time we think the worst is over, another challenge arises.

If it’s not a war knocking at our door, it’s the explosion or the financial crisis, if not that then the global inflation, or the food and supply shortage, or a power and fuel outage and many more.

It may sound repetitive, but this is the reality we face. We are exhausted from facing so many uncertainties.

With all the inescapable hatred in the world, we inevitably fear for the fate of our rescues.
With so much focus on human suffering globally, it’s hard to imagine who will pay attention to the needs of simple animals.

As we prepare for a war to break at any moment by stocking supplies and medications, ensuring we have enough food to last several months in case of delays, we must also consider our ongoing daily expenses that cannot be postponed or stored away.

Even after limiting our intakes to only life-threatening cases to cut cost, we’ve encountered heartbreaking very costly situations.

Every rescue we made over the past year or so has represented the last hope for these animals to have a tomorrow, let alone a second chance.
How can we promise these animals a better life when we struggle to ensure they will have a proper future?

We feel so helpless at times, that we even find ourselves wishing the war would just happen already so we wouldn’t have to live in limbo anymore, second guessing every decision we make.
Maybe just maybe if the war finally broke our animals would finally get the attention they deserve and need…

Our animals have endured immense suffering inflicted by cruel human beings.
They’ve survived the unimaginable, becoming our heroes, our “raison d’être”.

Witnessing their resilience and incredible strength in the face of such pain leaves us in awe.
How can they endure so much, suffer for so long and still not lose faith?
Was their strength given by a higher power, knowing they would need it to confront our species?

We cannot, will not fail them.

Your support is needed now more than ever, getting through these uncertain times will be hard but for the sake of our animals the least we can do is try !

It is my pleasure to announce that the beautiful Elna is now available for adoption.
Elna is a young 8 year old Lab/Sprinter mix who's journey is posted on this page.
Elna is a very affectionate girl who enjoys people in her life. She loves walks and the great outdoors.
Elna loves being at your feet waiting for your affection. Elna prefers her pad and blankets on the floor.
Due to her deafness she does get startled, but without aggression. She does respond to hand and clapping signals. Being deaf and blind doesn't hold her back from being a great girl.
A victim of horrific violence, being shot in the face, Elna is nothing less than a miracle.
Her love of life is amazing, and I'm a lucky man to be able to help her find the home she so deserves.
I would suggest that Elna go to a homesite older children.
Elna gets along with other dogs, but not tested with cats.
If you would like to have Elna be a part of your family, please send message or call 519 519 566-9003.

The Story of Elna
Elna came to us from Beitut Lebanon, where she was a stray on the street where she had to fend for herself.
The streets of Beitut are cruel, between the street dogs and the people.
Elna was intentionally shot in the head.
A good samaritan found her and contacted our friends at BETA.
Elna was rushed to a vet hospital where she was treated. With over a thousand pellets in her head,
They removed what they could. Elna would see several other surgeries.
BETA - Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals reached out to us to see if we could take her. Without a doubt we said yes.
Elna and some of her pals were on her way to Montreal, so we took the journey to bring her home.
In foster we discovered She was leaking saliva. Elna came back to the rescue where she had yet another surgery to remove a damaged spit gland.
She was now staying with me where I noticed she was not responding to vocal commands.
Back to the vet to check, and not only was she deaf, she was blind in one eye.
After several weeks Elna slipped on the hardwood floor, back to the vet where we found out she blew out her knee. After yet another surgery Elna was on the mend.
I want to tell you this in one amazing girl. Wearing a cone for so many surgeries was something else, she never lost her spirit.
Kind, friendly, loving and a face that warms your heart. Elna is a very special girl.
I was telling people if I don't find a home for her I'd just her.
I did find a home for Elna outside of Windsor, and it was a great fit. After a year I recieved a call saying the adopter had a medical situation and could no longer take care of her.
So back to Windsor she would come.
She has settled back in very well, and gets along with my dog.
This sweet, beautiful girl will be available for adoption in a week or two.
The first 3 photos are the damage done after being shot. I apologize, but thought this will show you what she went through.
I want to thank Dr. Jamu & Dr. Gill and the staff at Clearwater Animal Hospital, for the wonderful and loving care Elna received.
I would also like to thank my dear friends at Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals who not only saved Elna but thousands of Animals in Lebanon.

Here is the beautiful Elna.

Will post Elna's story tomorrow, have been under the weather.

𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗥𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗥𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗟𝗢𝗪

Tensions are running high in the Middle East, and in a country prone to wars and major conflicts we cannot but get ready for the worst whilst still hoping for the best.

The series of recent events in the south of Lebanon significantly heightened tensions in the region, residents have already evacuated the area as the Lebanese army has called its civilians to avoid the border zone “at all costs.”

Lebanon does not wish to be drawn into the ongoing conflict however it is rarely about what Lebanon and its people want, rather what has been decided for us.
We get dragged into horrors, unable to do anything, unable to raise our voices. We have been deprived of our finances, displaced after what was described as one of the biggest non nuclear explosions, stripped of our most basic rights, killed, and yet we remain hostages of our politicians and its surrounding allied countries.

The question we now ask ourselves: are we going to war?
Will our politicians cheer them on from the sidelines?
Or will we be dragged against our free will?

In all honesty, we are worried.
We are worried about the consequences of these small and yet impactful actions, worried we will be considered collateral damage, overlooked, and subsequently forgotten.

If war breaks, what are we supposed to do with the 1200+ animals under our care?

Our organization is preparing itself to withstand what is coming, we are urgently trying to get enough supplies to last us for at least the next couple of months.

As we are all children of war, we sadly but realistically know what to anticipate, we know that the first thing to do is to stock up on our basic needs.
We also know that the first to go are the imports of supplies into a war zone, because nobody wants to get near any of that !

The lives of countless animals depend on you, our loyal donors and us to see them through this, depend on you and us to make sure they will have everything they might need.

With that being said, we are getting a new shipment of dry and wet food ready, for both our dogs and cats, we are making sure we stock up on medications, on supplies, on our necessities.

War takes a huge toll on animals.
Animals who are themselves caught up in the conflict, stray animals in the streets that are defenseless against airstrikes, which are vulnerable and unprotected from all the hatred.

We are also expecting many injured animals in the south, those who will be abandoned by their family, and those who will need us to get to safety, and in most cases get the medical help they may need.
In all honesty what we need most are funds, funds for all the above to be possible, funds to make sure we are ready to face our next challenge.

Your ongoing support never fails to amaze us, never fails to lift us up when we are down, you are the reason we take on so much, because with every single one of you by our side we know we can face the unthinkable once again !
We pray for the countless innocent lives lost.
