It's :
Let's remember the dedicated Rangers who are out there, day and night, dedicated to protecting our natural heritage.
is dedicated to every unsung hero out there:

I am Ranger:
I am Ranger
hear me weep
as my charges
die at my feet
Poachers and butchers
and killers at night
take away our freedom
in a never-ending fight
Hunger and thirst
Rain and heat
all this we bear
never admitting defeat
My heart ripped from my chest
at the sight
of the rhino I knew best
Bleeding and torn
To pieces she's hacked
for a centimeter of horn
Her baby's screams never leave you
it tears into your soul
the bullet for mercy
is always too cold
Tears tend to fall as the sun sets
the darker it becomes
the more strained it gets
Will we see our precious babies
tomorrow again
or will they be found
as corpses and then
will I get shot at
Will I get killed or maimed
As I think this,
I feel deeply ashamed
I am a protector of all things wild
their innocence and helplessness
no different from that of a child
how can I fail them
how can I quit
few understand
fewer will admit
I will get up again
fight for them
for theirs is the world
who else would protect them
with word thought and deed
I shake it off and start patrolling
vigilant with every
life-threatening step of my feet
I am Ranger
and I bleed.

Thank you to the rangers who risk their lives on the front line everyday. Thank you to the vets who have to do emergency and dangerous procedures. Thank you to the family’s of these brave individuals that support them. Thank you to the conservations who continuously let the world know the truth, and when they need to shout louder, they do.

To every single one of you who works tirelessly to ensure the poachers do not win, your bravery and compassion has no end and we are eternally grateful for you!

It was an HONOUR to spend time at the Kariega Game Reserve and see how hard they have all worked to protect rhinos - thank you for everything you do and all of those on the front line! 🦏

IMPORTANT UPDATE

On Tuesday, two male rhinos at Lewa, Nasa aged 8, and Riziki, who is almost 16, got into a heated fight over territory.

The teenage rhino had gone into Nasa’s territory, and in an attempt to defend his turf, the two got into a furious fight. Lewa’s security team was called in to intervene and try to stop the situation from turning fatal.

An incensed Riziki repeatedly rammed into the safari vehicle, damaging it at the bottom. Nasa escaped with his life, but not without injury. Close monitoring by the rhino protection unit revealed that he had sustained injuries in his eye. Fortunately, it did not necessitate putting the animal under for treatment.

TONY FITZJOHN:

A sad day for the natural world as conservationist Tony Fitzjohn-WildlifeNow has passed away after a battle with illness.

Although Tony was predominantly known for his work with lions alongside George Adamson, he also founded Tanzania’s Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary, which was instrumental in the growth of the country’s black rhino population.

Our ceo Simon Jones was lucky enough to meet Tony in 2015 and spend some time discussing all things conservation with him.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones and those who worked alongside this great man.

Every new-born black rhino deserves to be celebrated. This is a critically endangered species whose population once numbered 20,000 animals in Kenya in the 1960s. Then, poachers decimated the species leaving behind just 300 individuals. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, their numbers have tripled and there are strongholds of rhinos across the country, including in Tsavo where this picture was taken. Now, with the birth of orphan Solio’s baby girl Savannah a couple of weeks ago, Kenya’s population has gotten one bigger!

Savannah’s birth gives hope for the species, and our own natural world, for it is an infinitely better one with wild-living rhinos a part of it. That’s because the very presence of these last-living dinosaurs supports other plants and animals, so by helping rhinos, we can also support countless other species. Learn more about how Solio’s recent baby is a triumph for the species at: https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news/updates/solio-gives-birth-savannah
