Currently these flights are Saturdays only. WJ is on holiday embargo through January 4 so the first possible date for them to leave is January 11. We’d love to see them get a flight on that date!

These two were rescued together from La Mision on July 26, 2023. They were lucky enough to be chosen by some vacationers who came out to volunteer and walk dogs with us. Please help us spread the word and SHARE so we can get them home ASAP!

📣 A SHOUT OUT to our wonderful committed volunteers, who all year around help us with 🚐transporting dogs and merch, 🦮 walking, cleaning 🧹, working our tables when we sell our merch 🛍️, informing people about our rescue, taking dogs to the airport ✈️, doing paperwork, social media 🖥️, pampering the staff 😍.... So many things these amazing people do for our rescue and our doggies.

Welcome to our newest little ladies, the Bucerias 5

We were contacted by a few different people Sunday night about 5 abandoned female puppies. Left in a fruit basket on Francisco Madero street, they were already out of the basket and in the street. Sadly we had to tell everyone we couldn’t take them due to lack of funds. One of the women was able to donate to their initial care so we then said yes and received them Monday morning.

Estimated at 2 months old, all 5 are female. They have already been internally dewormed, sprayed for fleas and blood tested. They will undergo full protocols before being ready for adoption in 2-3 months.

We try really hard to not reuse names on dogs. That proves quite difficult when we have rescued thousands and normally have 140+ in our care. We know many adopters change their names anyway so we like to have a little fun with the process. Often naming them based on where they were found or in groups which correlate to their rescue. Our Bucerias 5 includes some popular Bucerias restaurants! Named in the order they’re posted:

It hurts our hearts when we are messaged daily with dogs who need help. The flow of puppies has not slowed down since the summer. We have to be realistic about what we’re doing and how we operate. Donations are lower than they’ve ever been. We have some difficult cases which have gotten very expensive (Tux, his costs continue to rise) and we have to be able to pay our vets. We need to be able to feed our dogs, keep their vet care on track and pay our staff. Adoptions were strong in early November and now almost nothing. With little money coming in we simply can’t keep helping more dogs. We must be able to care for the ones we already have, some who will live with us a lifetime. Those costs don’t go away. Please understand when we can’t help a dog or dogs, it means we really can’t. At least these 5 are now safe and will be loved and cared for.

Jupiter made his way from Puerto Vallarta to Calgary 2 weeks ago. He’s currently in a foster home with 2 of his siblings and a senior dog and he’s available for adoption.
6 month old male, ~30lbs. We do not know his dad but mom was 44lbs(adopted to BC).
We expect he will be 45-50lbs maximum. He is more on the submissive, quieter side and would make a great addition to any home. We included a picture of his mom (last pic)

Undecided where to eat on Thanksgiving? Join us for a delicious meal at Vallarta Beer Garden and pick up a few items to help support the rescue! This is our yearly go-to for Thanksgiving. This year they have a juicy slow-smoked turkey sandwich, crispy sweet potato fries, chipotle cranberry sauce, fresh salad, and a pumpkin mousse with a splash of bourbon cream for only $395. Highly recommend following this page for some great information on training. We were extremely lucky to have this couple visit and volunteer at our shelter. They chose to adopt Prince, now Bruce, and now he’s home in Canada with them. You can view his rescue video in the comments

Rest in Peace-BLANQUITA 🕊️🌈🐾💔

Last night, the decision was made to help Blanquita cross the rainbow bridge. This poor old girl had become quite sick in the last few months with congestive heart failure. She declined quickly then stabilized. However last night her breathing was so labored and she was struggling.
We could see it was her time.

Blanquita was rescued from the Arroyo del Indio (river bed) right outside of Bucerias in 2019. She had the chance for her forever home in California so flew there. Unfortunately she did not do well so we went to get her. We decided she was a dog who needed to live free and have space and not be confined to a house. She made her home with us.
She was a favorite of all of us. Her most favorite days were volunteer walk days. She loved all the attention, especially from her best buddy Cam. And as of most recent, our staff member Jarocho, who had become her best friend.

Rest easy sweet girl, we will miss you😔

TUX UPDATE❤️‍🩹

You may remember a rescue from Bucerias picked up November 2 from Terralta 1. This poor guy was reported as showing up by someone’s house on a Friday unable to move. An entire day later we saw the post on Facebook and rescued him.

Tux had a spine fracture, likely from being hit by a car on the 200 (highway). We posted to raise funds for his surgery which he had right after rescue. The surgery was $22,000 pesos (discounted) and we raised $16,000; thank you donors!

Unfortunately Tux was not doing well once we received him. He was bleeding a lot from his incision and seemed quite uncomfortable. After being with us for a few days we had to take him back to the vet in Puerto Vallarta. The vet said it was possible his body was rejecting the materials from surgery.

He has now completed a very long process of multiple surgeries. He has been with the vet for 12 days and will likely stay another week for observation. You can see a drain was placed for the excess fluid to drain. If you look at the more graphic picture, you will see some gauze like material. Every other day he had to be opened up and that material was cleaned. Then he was stitched back up. 5 surgeries in 10 days. Each surgery costs $3000pesos however the vet only charged us $1500 per surgery; a big discount. We also have to pay for his stay and all the materials used while he has been in their care.

We’re hoping we can receive more donations to offset these costs, including to help pay for the first surgery. The bill is attached as the last photo. The total cost for this round of surgeries, materials and care is almost $30,000 pesos. As always we can’t help these dogs without your support and we appreciate all you do! Malú, a smaller senior is pending adoption to Edmonton. We can fly her Monday Nov 11 but her family can’t pick up as they’ll be out of town until Wednesday afternoon.

We’d love to fly her but would need airport pick up Monday night then foster for a few days. If you’d be able to help us out, we’d really appreciate it!

Malú was found in the streets of Bucerias, likely abandoned. She’s well mannered and quiet. One day she “showed up” and stayed in the same area for 2 weeks. Abandonment always amazes us but with a senior…😭Help us spread the word so we can try to fly her Monday!

What dogs we rescue... What dogs we don't, and why.... Shelters with a lot of dogs are not always the best place for certain dogs and instead of helping them, is bad for them as they can get very overwhelmed in this kind of environment. A street dog that is not in real need of medical care is happier living a dog's real life on the street going everywhere and doing whatever they want, than being in a shelter with over 100 dogs. Our resources are not enough to give them all attention and love everyday, nor training ever. We save a life of a dog in real need, rehabilitate and try to find a home for him/her...
