It's that time of year again! These traps really work to catch all the bad guys that eat honey bees... wasps, hornets, yellow-jackets... and will catch SHB's & wax moths as well!!!

Make & hang these traps around your apiary to help your bees! European hornets, wasps, & yellow jackets eat honeybee larvae. They are predatory, carnivorous critters […]

WANTED: Spotted Lanternflies

If you spot it, squash it!

Spotted lanternflies (SLF) are invasive planthopper insects. They feed on the sap of a wide variety of plants including grapes, hardwood trees, and stone fruits.

When they feed they weaken the plant and secrete a sticky fluid called honeydew. Honeydew invites mold growth which can further damage plants.

How to find them: SLF gather in large numbers when feeding, often on the trunks of a plant.

Appearance: Nymphs, baby SLF, are black with white spots and turn red as they age.

Adults are about 1-inch long and 1/2-inch wide with a yellow and black abdomen. The forewings are brown with black spots with a speckled band at the rear. The hind wings are bright red with black spots and have white and black bars at the rear.

Newly laid egg masses resemble cracked brown mud. Look for them on a variety of smooth surfaces such as trees, bricks, stones, fences, grills, and vehicles. Eggs can be found in the fall, winter, and spring season. Nymphs are found in spring and early summer, and adults in the summer and fall seasons.

Odor: As the sticky excretions ferment, it can develop an intense, rotten smell.

Spread: SLF mainly move by hopping and short-distance flight.

They can't travel far by themselves, so they rely on human interaction to spread to new areas. SLF use humans to hitchhike along rails and highways. They also use the movement of cargo containers and wood products to travel.

Watch out for SLF in the park and in your neighborhoods. If you spot one, feel free to channel your anger on this invasive pest!

There was a video malfunction & I’m not able to catch the scumbag that stole $200 worth of honey from me… this time. But honestly, lately/anymore I just feel like throwing in the towel. I’m such a small business with a super slim profit margin (that basically goes to paying the bills) that this loss/theft hurts me extremely badly. Like other small business owners, I’m constantly juggling & struggling to make ends meet. I never get to take vacations. All the money I make goes back into the business & bees. I’m just so tired of all this. Then to add in the death of my brother yesterday… I just feel like I can’t keep all this up mentally, physically, & financially.

So someone wants to ruin the honor system at Eversweet. Someone passed fake money & took $200 worth of honey. I'll be re...

So someone wants to ruin the honor system at Eversweet. Someone passed fake money & took $200 worth of honey. I'll be reviewing the surveillance tapes. If it was an honest mistake, they better correct the situation before I send the video to the police.

I had a lot fun at West Virginia Beekeepers Association's 2024 Spring Conference & Honey Show! I saw a lot of old friends & met some new ones. My presentation went well. And I won some ribbons! The Welsh Standard of judging entries was used by the American Honey Show Training Council & the criteria is strict (as it should be)! Oh I got some goodies... a gorgeous mug, tasty creamed honey (thanks Gerrie!)... and my favorite... a 3D printed varroa mite from Aperture Apiary! A great day was had by all! Thanks West Virginia Beekeepers Association, WV Eastern Panhandle BeeKeepers Association, & all the volunteers for putting on this fun event! 🐝🥰
