Holy WOW! This morning I felt the need to fulfill some childhood nostalgia: a cereal craving 🥣. Brown Sugar Frosted Mii Wheats were a favorite in my teens and up until about age 23 when I started tuning into "clean & organic living" + non-toxic ingredients for my body (and the planet) 🍃
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This morning ☀️ I went to reach for a box of that same beloved cereal to find an ingredient listed "BHT" 🚫🤚🏼.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you think the average consumer is going to stand in the grocery store isle and Google "BHT" 🚫 like I did? By the way, BHT is an endocrine disruptor (hormone disruptor) 🚫 - so that choice ended up being a hard no for me. Instead, I ended up picking up an insanely delicious box of Kashi Organic Cinnamon Harvest 🤎🥣 cereal (looks like mini wheats, tastes a million times better and totally fine ingredients).

As a dog mom of fluffy white dogs for decades on decades at this point in time, there’s one struggle I know all too well: tear stains of the eye and paws!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The good news after much trial and learning: I’ve found a solution that has finally stopped the staining around my beloved cutie, 3.5 year old Maltese Jasper (aka Party Shark and Jaspie, as his Aunt Sloan calls him)’s eyes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tear stains are caused by your dog’s eye structure or certain health issues that can cause your dog to produce too much of something called porphyrin. When there is even just a slight raised amount of porphyrin it causes the excess tears and staining of the paws. This can be caused by excess yeast in the body or infection such as conjunctivitis. The majority of the time it is excess yeast in the body. On top of tear-stain as a visual, these stains sometimes also smell like stinky feet.

For a simple paw soak: use a 1/3 cap full or “quick squeeze” and mix into a like warm dish you can dunk and rinse their 🐾 paws in.

🥥❌ ON THE BLOG: WHY YOU WON'T SEE USING COCONUT OIL IN OUR PRODUCTS

Coconut Oil is a saturated fat that is moisturizing and used in some shampoos as a lathering agent. To turn coconut oil into soap, a process called saponification is used. This is when an alkali (Sodium Hydroxide) is mixed with the oil.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sodium hydroxide is what causes the burn when you get shampoo or soap in your eyes. Sodium hydroxide is also used in drain cleaners! When saponification (what occurs in the production process when using coconut oil) is found in natural soaps, we like to call that “green washing”, meaning it is not completely eco friendly.
