New Dog Training Location!

Polite Pup, LLC is exploring interest in conducting one of our 8-week dog training sessions in Lyman. These classes would be held at the Tyger River Fire Department, 355 Locust Street (near KJ's and the QT), just off Hwy. 29. We are hoping this would provide a convenient location for Greer, Taylors and West Spartanburg teams without having to travel to our other locations near Westgate Mall or near Greer Memorial Hospital.

If you're interested in preparing your dog for therapy visit work or Canine Good Citizen certification, or simply just seek a better-mannered pup, please contact Lynn Bailey, at (864)205-6875, or Dana Dowling, at (919) 607-5332. We will hold a fall training session, possibly two, and would love to know if this new location would make things more convenient for prospective attendees - thanks!

Friendly, non-judgmental environment geared towards socialization, therapy dog work (we are certified evaluators for a national organization), and/or AKC Canine Good Citizen testing. Our next 8-week dog training class will be held in Greer, off Hwy. 101 near Greer Memorial Hospital. Classes will likely start either July 9th or the 16th. I want to wholeheartedly wish a great big “Congratulations” to the latest members of our Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog team. Lynn Bailey, my training partner and the “other half” of Polite Pup, LLC, along with her Mini-Poodle, Blaize, passed their certification exam last week. I can’t wait to see them both in action soon, brightening days and bringing smiles with their visits!

Our last campus visit for this term found the Doggie Do-Gooders at Wofford College, where many students and faculty took time to visit and relax for just a bit before preparing for final exams. As always, our wonderful pets enjoyed meeting so many great people as they shared their special love and compassion with everyone they met. Many thanks to these generous dog owners who volunteer their time to show others what we already know about our fur babies; that being their unique ability to connect with others to transport them to a situation where they can relax and put their studies behind, even if just for a short time. A special shout-out to Lisa Lefebvre for helping to coordinate these visits to Wofford, and "good luck" to all the students as they wrap up this semester - see you in the fall!

Our Doggie Do-Gooders from Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs were at it again, visiting students at Spartanburg Methodist College just before final exams. As you can see, students, faculty and the dogs all had a great time just being together and relaxing. A special thanks to Dr. Mindy Bliss at SMC for helping to set up these visits on 4/25 and 4/29. Also, an extra special "thank you" to Susanne and Zvezda, the sweet Borzoi, for traveling from Columbia to join us in Spartanburg!

A few therapy teams from the Doggie Do-Gooders chapter of Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs enjoyed a great visit with students at Wofford College, just in time ease stress for mid-terms. New therapy dog and obedience classes beginning in late March / early April, so message us if you’re interested. Discounts available for dogs adopted or rescued within the past year.

Polite Pup is delighted to announce the latest addition to our certified therapy dog team, Elisa Roberts-Oglesby and her beautiful massive German Shepherd, Roland. As Roland was already an AKC Canine Good Citizen, the therapy dog testing was a breeze for him. We wish them both “Good Luck” as they head home to Columbia, where they will visit and spread joy, especially to some very lucky fifth-grad students!

Now that holiday festivities have ended and all the decorations are packed away, it’s time to start our first dog training session for 2024! If you’ve added a new canine member to your family, or you’re interested in becoming a therapy team with your well-mannered pup, or you just simply want to foster better communication and basic manners for your dog, kindly PM your name, email address and phone number and we will get the appropriate information to you. Greer classes, held near Greer Memorial Hospital on Hwy. 101, starts Thursday, 1/25 (tentative), while our Spartanburg class is held near Westgate Mall and begins Tuesday, 1/30. Both session run for 8 weeks and are held from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Instructors are certified evaluators with Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs and AKC Canine Good Citizens.

My AKC a registered Havanese is looking for a girlfriend, specifically another AKC Havanese, Bichon Frise or Miniature/Toy Poodle. Willing to travel, within reason, for stud service and at one year old, he is already a Certified Therapy dog as well as AKC Canine Good Citizen. Wonderful friendly temperament and beautiful silky Havanese coat. Photos are at ten weeks old (darker coat) and more recent are light coat colors (creme/buff with black/blue point). We had a great team travel from Charleston to Greenville to be certified, and they passed with flying colors! Congratulations to Roberto and his beautiful Australian Shepherd, Bella, as they joined The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog family! We‘RE certain they will bring many smiles to the patients at MUSC as they begin their therapy work.

A big “Congratulations!” to Kathy Hodges and Cricket, her sweet Chihuahua, as they passed the Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog certification test. This team completed an 8-week training course with Polite Pup and overcame a number of obstacles and challenges to become certified. Kathy’s hard work and persistence paid off as we watched Cricket grow into his new role, brightening the lives of those with whom he visits.

We were so honored and thrilled to test and certify two majestic Borzois from Columbia. Suzanne Cecere owns Sokol, a ten-year old white gentle giant and seven-year old Zvesda, with his black-over-brindle beautiful coat. They are both absolutely perfect as therapy dogs and will touch many lives in their service to others.

Several therapy dog teams under Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs visited The Residences at Greer to show off their costumes and deliver Halloween candy. It's hard to tell who had more fun, the residences or the pups, but Lynn Bailey and I are so very thankful to be working with such a great group of people who give their time and resources, sharing their dogs to brighten the lives of others!

Congratulations to two new teams certified as therapy dogs!!! Erin & her handsome Samoyed, Rutledge, were part of our Greer class, while Ronnie and his adorable Welsh Terrier, Lady, came to our Spartanburg class. The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog group is fortunate to have these great teams spreading love and joy in this area!

We are delighted to announce the certification of two brand new teams!

Hannah and Brinkley, the handsome Golden Retriever, we’re awarded therapy dog certificates, and Brinkley also earned his Canine Good Citizen from AKC.

Ann and Dutchie, her adorable Shih Tzu, also passed their therapy dog test, so all four will now join the Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dog family.

These compassionate owners both drove from Charleston to Greenville to sit for their tests, and it was such a joy to meet them today. We’re honored that Polite Pup played a role so that they can share their wonderful pets with those in need and truly be a blessing to their communities!

Our last planned 8-week training session for the year has started in Greer, but we are considering a 6-week course specifically for those dogs who have the basics (sit/down/stay) and just need “fine tuning” for therapy or obedience certification. If you’re interested, let us know and we will determine if we have bandwidth in Spartanburg or Greer before end of the year. As a reminder, we also offer individual classes related to specific areas of concern.
