It's winter-ish in Riverdale. Our old houses have holes.
Mice sometimes get in. Especially with all the Metrolinx construction all around us. It's inevitable.
Revy literally stopped, froze, and cocked his head at a gap between my stove and my cupboards tonight. For the 1st time.
GOOD BOI REVY!
So, I set a live trap. We'll see in the morning.
I trust my dog to tell me. My old terrier Fajita was an expert at finding Mice and where they were coming in. She killed them if she found one.
Revy just may have the same expertise! That would be awesome! 👌👏🐾

Small Wonders Pets first opened its doors on International Women's Day in 1994!
We're a community-oriented shop that's been on the Danforth for almost 31 years! Over the decades, we've had thousands of customers, over generations of their pets. We've celebrated their puppy school graduation, or their first catnip toy....and we've mourned with them years later when their pet passes over the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge....

As a Small Business owner with a week of really long days coming up, I rely on other small businesses to feed me for an entire week!
Gerrard Square food court:
Tropical Joe's Roti will feed me for 5 days.
The chinese food place on the other side: bourbon chicken, orange chicken, noodles and veg will also feed an entire family for a week with the incredible amount of food they give!
Total amount spent for both?
Less than $40, taxes and tip included.

I'm gonna be honest because I always am!
It's really, super difficult owning a small, main street business!
Since the pandemic, things have drastically changed!
My costs for products have increased so much, I'm really surprised! Things we used to sell regularly...
Crates, cat litter boxes, cat trees/furniture. Cool collars and leashes to match. I can't believe how much they even cost ME now, at wholesale prices! More than double on many items.
So, I decided to NOT carry them anymore in the shop.
I can't compete with similar products offered online. No point in carrying them anymore in my shop.
Anything within my shop walls is called "real " estate. I can't afford to have products sitting on my shelves for much longer than I've paid the bill for. Every month a product sits there, it's costing me money for the space it takes.
My hard costs of rent, hydro, banking fees, insurance at 2 different levels, alarm monitoring, taxes, office supplies, cleaning supplies, internet/phone costs, lighting costs, garbage fees, credit card fees, etc. Huge dollars!
Payroll for a business: besides the actual pay to the employee... small Businesses pay more than 60% of each employee's contribution to CPP and EI.
Don't even mention quarterly HST remittance. We're unpaid tax collectors! If we submit even ONE day late.... it's a 15% late payment charge, accrued daily.
It's literally killing our ability to stay in business.
In all honesty, I didn't see 60 being the year I worked so much harder... I'm supposed to be able to see my twin granddaughters grow up now. Not be unable to go see them because I'm stuck at my shop for what seems will never end...

Walking the dog! What we do on our days off! I just love living in the east end, because we have access to the Don Watershed and Lake Ontario. Also... a reminder: Please refrain from feeding our waterbirds at all! Not even peas. H5N1 is a real threat for these birds. Let's not bring them even closer together than they would naturally be. Artificial feeding makes them touch beaks, which is not good !! These birds are congregating in the protected bay off Unwin because the water released from the energy plant is warmer....
