And this is why I keep Serama chickens 😂
Hubby caught this great video yesterday of some wild residents of our property strolling with their babies. This happens every year and it never gets old!
The latest hatch of call ducklings just out of the incubator
I realize this video is horrible but it's as close as we could get. Can anybody possibly identify these ducks on our pond.
NFS just for looking. 2023 Butterscotch pair I am excited for this year ♥
Mandarin hen with broken leg update--week 1
The duckling brooder to the rescue! This week I have moved her into the duckling brooder--which I will expand her area to the full width in time. I stapled clear opaque shower curtain along the window side of the brooder so she does not have the perception of freedom-and I put plywood on the top so she doesn't try and fly out.
Mostly she is pretty chill and just sits there when I walk by but all bets off if I reach in there for anything..
She is getting around better than I thought she would but she HATES the splint! I was in a bad wreck once upon a time and broke my kneecap--she seems to be doing better than I was at that point. She does use her leg now and then and bear a little weight, but mostly she HATES the splint with a passion LOL
Her wound looks great! We have started swimming (inside of a large plastic tub with a lid inside my bathtub.
Meanwhile her intended husband is now inside the Winter Palace with the call duck girls. LOL They seem to be co-habitating just fine.
Fingers crossed for continued recovery
Waddle into Monday...🤣be like this...
This little crested was a keeper right up until she started to change colors and her voice deepened... This does not happen very often but it will happen to all of us eventually where something will go wrong in a young bird and they're reproductive system becomes damaged.
She actually just got her Drake curl this week 🤣
For all of you people who think that's a telltale sign of a Drake.
If you listen closely you will hear her making quack noises like a girl.
She will most likely never lay an egg but if she does it will not be fertile.
Fortunately I have a wonderful customer who keeps an all-girl flock and she's excited to have her to be a cute yard ornament.
I know she's going to have a wonderful life ahead of her as a much loved pet ❤️
Thanks to everyone patiently waiting for more available call ducks. My pens are all full right now and I am eagerly awaiting shipping time making it impossible to sort other birds.
I know we are all in the same boat this time of year and super excited for our new arrivals! I am too!
I am hoping to start shipping calls the second or third week of September 🤞🤞 If the weather cooperates.
Meanwhile enjoy a random video of 2 of my appleyard hens that I took yesterday for fun. (NFS)
Here's a little video for all the folks who asked me whether or not the retinator really works this is just from last night
Sitting inside the grow out pen this afternoon in the heatwave cleaning out pools. I hope everyone is doing all right with this awful heat.
It occurs to me that I'm caring for over 300 birds right now and my days are long hot and tiring lol I have hatched over 150 call ducklings this year and I haven't counted wild species.
I appreciate all the messages and comments just be advised I may not be able to get back to you right away.
Fall seems like a long ways away. Lol
Teaser video of some of my 2023 call duck grow outs.
Some of these will be available this fall
I had to go into stealth mode to catch the crickets... But unfortunately I only got a couple seconds.
Laughing chicken chicks are hilarious. I really thought there was a cricket in the house last night.
The little Mandarin's next door are wondering what the heck I'm doing lol
Three little mandarins went out to the wet brooder this morning. Enjoy your swimmies ❤️ They look so tiny in there lol
Quick little video I grabbed this morning with an aviary cam of my NA Ruddy duck flapping his wings--drive by video bomb by my Peach pheasant
The last week or so there has been a lone Canada Goose hanging out by my Nene pen wanting to join the flock. Every year, a few pairs nest at our pond but this one seems to not have a mate 😭
My Nene are not impressed and will CHARGE at the fence but the CG doesn't move. It never crosses that section of electric fence but stays close by most of the day. Poor baby I really wish he/she could find a mate. I'm guessing it's a female -seeing the juveniles in there wants to help with "child care" LOL
