With the 4th of July just around the corner, it's important to keep in mind our feline friends. While we look forward to celebrating, the festivities, particularly fireworks, can be very stressful for cats of all ages, so here are some tips to keep your cat happy and safe.

🎇 Keep your cat indoors if at all possible. The noise of fireworks can frighten even the most experienced outdoor cat, leading the risk of them getting lost, or worse, running out into a roadway.

🎇 Take current pictures with identifiable markings just in case, and make sure their identification is up-to-date. If you haven't already, your cat should have both a collar with tags and a microchip. More so, double check to make sure the microchip is still active with the provider and all information is accurate.

🎇 Create a safe space. Ideally, your cat should be kept in the quietest room of your home with plenty of hiding places and comfort items. Turn on a TV or play soothing music to drown out the sounds of fireworks. Certain scents, like the pheromone spray Feliway, can also help calm an anxious cat.

🎇 Don't feed table scraps. It might be tempting to give your pet a special treat, but human food is just that, for humans. The risks outweigh the benefits in the long run. Brush up on common foods that are toxic for them, and be particularly careful to avoid their exposure to them.

🎇 If all else fails, consult with your veterinarian to consider other options such as behavioral therapy and/or anxiety medication.

😼 Bow Down, Humans – It’s Cat World Domination Day! 🐾🌍

Today, we pay tribute to the feline overlords who let us think we’re in charge (spoiler alert: we’re not). From plotting our downfall from the highest shelf to demanding snacks at 3 AM, cats have been quietly taking over the world one purr at a time.

💼 Signs your cat is planning world domination:
🐾 They stare out the window, plotting their empire expansion.
🐾 They knock things off the counter to assert dominance.
🐾 They claim every box as their rightful throne.
🐾 They’ve trained you to serve them on demand.

At Turtle Creek Veterinary Medical Center, we’re here to keep your future ruler healthy and happy – because every empire needs a strong leader. 🐱💪

📸 Share a pic of your cat in "world domination" mode in the comments! Let’s celebrate our furry conquerors together.

Are you adopting a new cat and don't know what to expect? Use the rule of threes. On average it takes three days for them to decompress, three weeks to learn your routine, and three months to start to feel at home. 🏠🐈

DID YOU KNOW...

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is an infectious disease that weakens a cat's immune system, leaving them more susceptible to other illnesses. It is most commonly spread via deep bite wounds from an infected cat. It is not known to be spread via passive means such as sharing water bowls and mutual grooming. This means that FIV+ cats can be housed with non-infected cats so long as they get along. With this all said, FIV is NOT a death sentence, and cats infected with it can live long, relatively normal lives.

‼️NEW INTAKE‼️

Meet Solo! This tiny newborn was brought to us by a good Samaritan after the mother cat never returned. The little one still had its umbilical cord attached and was cold as well as dehydrated. After being warmed up, we were able to bottle feed it, before introducing it to our mother cat Cookie. We're happy to say that Cookie almost immediately took in the kitten! She is now grooming and nursing it alongside her other kittens! We're hopeful that this little one has a bright future ahead of it! 🙏😻
