The Crab Street Journal was created in 2001 as the online hermit crab care magazine of LHCOS. Our focus

is providing free access to accurate and current care information for pet land hermit crabs. Our site is accessible to all without a need for registration but to interact with other members, you must create a free account. The Crab Street Journal is the flagship site for the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society C.A.R.E. It encompasses all of the aspects of the program. LHCOS advocates to improve the lives of captive land hermit crabs and protect and preserve wild hermit crabs, their habitat and resources like shells. LHCOS Core Values

Reducing plastics and improving and preserving natural habitats are part of our conservation efforts. Establishing a captive breeding program is also a vital part of our conservation efforts. Community:
Our goal is to build a community of quality hermit crab care sites that can be relied upon for accurate and current care practices. The Crustacean C.A.R.E. Coalition program brings hermit crab care websites under the umbrella of LHCOS. The Local Representatives and Junior Local Representatives programs add a local focus to our program. Advocacy:
Our goal is to raise awareness about safe practices. The Say No to Painted Shells campaign is one example. In 2016, LHCOS/CSJ began exhibiting at pet expos. With a crowd of 25,000 people we brought our message to the public in a big way. We returned to the expo in 2018 and in 2019 we added a local monthly exotic pet show to our schedule. Research:
Our goal is to continue to use existing research on the Coenobita species to further our knowledge and improve our care practices. We reach out to researchers, biologists and students to gain access to valuable data and seek input. Rescue:
We advocate rescue and re-homing over purchasing. Our program was the very first hermit crab adoption program. It is growing at a rapid pace. Education:
Our goal is to provide accurate and current information to the public free of charge so they have the information they need to properly care for their pet land hermit crabs. We accomplish this through online articles, care sheets, informative videos, pet expos, social media, sharing information on our forums as well as working with pet stores to improve their conditions. In 2018 the Claws in the Classroom program was launched to provide assistance to classrooms keeping pet hermit crabs.

HAPPY HERMIT CRAB DAY!!! And my Big is celebrating with allllll of Bioactive.FX's newly released Week Three recipes from their laboratory tested "Seven Days of Buffets" meal rotation system.

I LOVE this system so hold on to your seat while I run my mouth a bit [or just skip to the comments to get your own]:
If you haven't heard of this [ingenius] food line - the idea is to take some of the guesswork out of feeding your hermit crabs a balanced-over-time, well rounded diet. The general rule of thumb is to "feed 50% protein", but the common misconception is that, for instance, 1 cup of "meat" to 1 cup of "veggies and other things" is equivalent to "50% protein." It is not. "Protein" doesn't equate to "meat." Meat contains protein... and the independent laboratory testing on each of the "Seven Days of Buffets" ensures that the research-based need for 50% of ELEMENTAL protein is met -- i.e. 50 grams of protein + 50 grams of carbs, fats, minerals, etm.

Get it? Too much mathing? Well - that's why this system is perfect for beginners and advanced keepers, as well as for vacation pet sitters and classroom pets. One meal of a broad variety of differing ingredients for one day - for each day for 4 weeks. Start over. Only want to try one week? That's one different meal for each day for seven days, and then start over in the rotation... and so on.

How do I use this system? I do offer other food mixes as well as offer fresh foods from the fridge and forest. When it isn't "HERMIT CRAB DAY!", I generally offer one [or two] "Seven Days of Buffets" meal alongside a few other recipes. I find comfort in knowing that at least one part of the meal offers enough protein according to scientific guidelines, as well as several other premium ingredients 'cause "variety is the spice of life"; the hermit crabs are free to have their opinions about what is in their spread for the evening, picking and choosing what they innately know they need.

* - I snagged all four weeks in their LIMITED EDITION glass tubes as my Weeks One and Two needed replenishing anyway. Check the comments for direct links where you can get your own tubes by the week or individual recipes available in larger sizes.
