Meet Koi! 🧡🦴

This sweet little guy is only around 6 months old and 11lbs—expected to stay on the small side!

He loves to play with his toys, is great on his leash and likes his crate. He is learning to sit on command.

Koi is a sweet and happy little puppy who found himself dumped at a high kill shelter for unknown reasons. Koi would make a great addition to any family who is looking for a new companion to keep them active with regular exercise activities.

We believe Koi is a shaggy terrier type mix, giving him the perfect amount of energy and personality! We believe he will be in the range of 20lbs when full grown, but we are not able to make any guarantees on full grown adult size!

Meet Justine! 🩷🐾

Justine is a ~5 year old, 9lb terrier mix.

She’s great with other dogs, and loves to play and run around with them. She is mostly housebroken, and is good in her crate overnight but doesn’t love it when she knows her people have left the house. She LOVES to be close to her people as much as possible and is a great snuggle buddy!

She’s good on a leash but sings the songs of her people when she sees another dog.

Justine is currently fostered with two young kids. She is good with the 5 year old but doesn’t love the sudden movements and loud noises from the 2 year old. She would do best in a home with older kids!

Update on sweet Reese ❤️‍🩹

He has tested positive for heartworm (of course, why would an animal abuser give their dog preventatives). He has double eye infections but they are starting to clear up after several days on meds.

The head trauma Reese experienced caused a lot of swelling, resulting in his eyes going sideways and preventing him from walking straight. This is starting to improve but he’s still wobbly, and very weak from malnutrition. He’s moving slow, but is starting to get up and walk on his own.

He was also given Epilepxis for the convulsions he was having.

As upsetting as Reese’s condition is, we are grateful to see he has so much support and will do our best to share regular updates on him as we receive them from his care team in Texas. This sweet dog has a long road ahead of him.

You guys…we don’t know how this is… but Carlton hasn’t found his love match yet! 😱

Carlton is a beautiful ~2 year old, 80lb silver lab mix with the most soulful eyes. He is an absolute love and is eager to be hugged, petted and scratched…especially on the belly. He seems to be unaware of his size, as he will attempt to climb up on your lap and snuggle!

Carlton is house trained and knows some basic commands such as sit and paw. He is good with other dogs, full of energy and loves to play. He also enjoys his “alone” time in his crate and sleeps through the night.

Carlton is quite strong and tends to tug on his leash during walks, but is doing better with his leash etiquette every day. His foster mom describes herself as a petite, older woman and is able to handle him well with a nose halter. He does not jump and barks infrequently.

Carlton is the epitome of a gentle giant. He deserves a family that can spend time playing with him and taking him for long walks. Any affection given to him he returns ten-fold.

Reminder of our adoption guidelines and tips for getting approved!

We are getting a lot of apps lately with current dogs in the home well past due for core vaccines (or never received them to begin with) and/or not on monthly preventatives. We do call your vet to verify this information so please be honest on your application!

Sandy Paws Rescue prides itself on matching each dog with the RIGHT adopter. We are not a first come, first “get” rescue. We frequently have people upset with us for not being chosen for a particular dog, so we thought it would be helpful if we shared more about our process for selecting adopters.

We have placed more than 2,000 dogs in their forever homes here in New England in the last few years. Here’s what those adopters did, and what you can do to ensure an approved application:

1. KEEP PETS UP-TO-DATE ON ALL RECOMMENDED VET CARE
***This is the number one reason we deny an application.*** If your dog or cat is unaltered, or behind on their annual exams, vaccinations or preventatives, get them into the vet asap. BEFORE you apply with us. We require consistent vetting history before placing a new dog in your home.

Roughly 40-50% of the applications we receive do not give monthly preventatives to their dog. Flea/tick and heartworm prevention is not only critical to your dog’s health, but some rescued dogs from the south have already gone through the brutal treatment for heartworms. We are not willing to risk placing any of our dogs in a home where they could go unprotected again.

2. FILL OUT THE APPLICATION THOROUGHLY & HONESTLY
Yes, we know the application is long. We are trying to get to know you to ensure we’re matching you with the right dog the best we can. We also want to be sure you’ve thought this through. A dog is a long-term commitment that will require a lot of vet care and possibly a lot of training throughout his/her life.

When a dog has multiple applications, the ones with all one-word answers are unlikely to be chosen.

3. READ THE DOG’S BIO THAT YOU’RE APPLYING FOR
Sometimes we have dogs who have specific needs in their adoptive homes. For example: needs to be the only dog in the home, needs a fenced yard because they won’t walk on a leash yet, can’t live with kids, etc.

4. LIST MULTIPLE DOGS
If you aren’t selected for the dog you initially applied for, that doesn’t mean your application was rejected. You can list multiple dogs on your application for greater chances of finding a match right off the bat. Or, you can later email [email protected] if you see other dogs you’re interested in.

5. BE READY & BE RESPONSIVE
After applying, an adoption coordinator MAY reach out to you as quickly as that same day (usually within 48 hours). Please respond to their phone call, text or email in a timely manner. Your adoption coordinator will walk you through our process which includes reference checks, a virtual/video home tour, and may include a meet and greet if the dog is local. Be prepared to take your new dog home within the week if you are approved. We cannot hold dogs.

6. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY…

WE NEED HELP.

We beg for foster homes so often but rarely get new applications unless we have some sort of desperate situation. The truth is, we are always desperate for more foster homes.

Some adopters will adopt upon arrival without meeting their dog first, but many adopters want to meet their dog FIRST…and we get it.

But we can’t offer this without reliable fosters.

Fosters that don’t ask to adopt their very first dog & never foster again. Fosters that understand these dogs have gone through a lot of change and may be nervous, or may not be housebroken. Fosters that understand if they “change their mind”, we have no where to put that dog that they committed to helping.

We are fortunate to have many amazing fosters in our network but we can’t ask them to take new dogs back to back. They’re burning out.

Please help us. Help our regular fosters. Help a homeless dog find their perfect family!

🐾 We cannot guarantee the breed of any dog we rescue, so we cannot accept breed-specific requests for fostering. We can, however, accommodate if you are only able to foster puppies vs adults, or large dogs vs small. ❤️

🐾 Yes, it can be very difficult to say goodbye to your foster pup. But many of our fosters share how rewarding it is to see an at-risk dog placed with the perfect family. And a lot of our adoptive families stay in touch with their foster families and share updates! 🥰

He has very poor eyesight, but is otherwise in good health for a senior.

Chente is still waiting to find his home! 💙🐾

He is a happy little 8 month old blue heeler puppy who loves to give kisses! 😘 If you’re on MV he will be at Nomans Tuesday evening starting around 5:30 for their Best in Show event. Head to their website to learn more! nomansmv.com

Chente has been doing great with other dogs, and is good with cats although will chase them outside. He is interested in chickens but for the most part leaves them alone.

Chente is housebroken and has been doing well in the crate for short amounts of time. He will go right in when it’s feeding time, as that’s where he has been eating. He loves his toys. He is active but settles down quickly.

Chente has been in training with Rise&ShineK9 for the last few weeks and is doing great! He is doing very well with recall and is generally a well behaved puppy.

She thrives on love, attention, and plenty of playtime. She enjoy interactive toys, outdoor adventures, and, most importantly, spending quality time with their human companions.

Once playtime is over, Lala does enjoy calm time/bedtime in her crate and sleeps quietly through the night.

Little Tiger is ready to find his furever home once again! ❤️❤️❤️ He seems to have fully settled back into his foster home after a few days on the run in Mashpee last weekend. Thanks to all who called in sightings of him and to Missing Dogs Massachusetts who safely trapped him!

Tiger is a 2 year old, 18lb brindle Sato! 🇵🇷 He is a very sweet, very timid little guy. He loves to be near his people and once he fully warms up he will snuggle up to you too! 🥰

Tiger is fully housebroken, does well in his crate, loves going on walks and loves car rides too!

His ideal home would be with pawrents who are willing to give him the time and patience needed to come out of his shell and blossom into a happy pup! He would do well with another dog in the house that can teach him how to be a confident doggy.

Meet Tracy! 💜🐾

Tracy is a 5 month old lab mix puppy, expected to be a large adult (currently around 35lbs).

Meet Layla! 🌟🐾

Layla is about 10 months old and 28lbs. We think she is a min pin mix and shouldn’t get too much bigger!

She enjoys the outdoors and loves to sun bathe in the grass. ☀️ She can be shy and may take a few hours to warm up but after she gets to trust you, she will be your best friend. 💕

Layla is incredibly smart and is eager to please! 🤓 She catches onto commands and house rules very quickly. She is comfortable in her crate but will always prefer to be on a couch near her human or a dog friend. 🥰 She sleeps quietly in her crate throughout the night. She is friendly with all dogs. 🐶

Layla is food-driven which makes things easier when it comes to training. 🦴 She is doing amazing with leash training and has been loving going on walks with her foster siblings. 🦮 She has taken a few car rides and does great, mostly sleeps but pops up to look out the window from time to time and quickly returns back to the snoozing position. 😴 She is going to be a great addition to any family and bring lots of laughs and loyalty.

Humans Hide Dog Paralyzed From The Shock Of Being Beaten Amongst Trash

Reese was found lying in a state of paralysis, shocked from being beaten within an inch of his life. The person who assaulted him tossed his body amongst piles of trash in the hopes of hiding away his body and covering up what they did. They probably thought he was close to death because of how lifeless he was. When locals spotted his body, he wasn't moving. He didn't try and run as they approached, he didn't squirm out of fear. He just...laid there.

He was rushed to the hospital, where we stepped in to take over his care, and wanted to scream at the top of our lungs at the sight of him. He was alive, he was breathing, and physically his body was intact. But the light from his eyes was gone. He was a shell of the dog he should have been.

Diagnostics so far show heavy contusions and bruising all over his body, but thankfully no broken bones. Doctors conclude that his lack of movement is more mental than physical. The assault has left him in a state of shock that's practically paralyzing for him. They are seeing deep head trauma that indicates he took multiple blows to the head. The smaller wounds on his body are being cleaned up, he's been placed on supportive care, and tests are being done to check the rest of his internal health. He's being monitored for neurological signs too. He is still at the hospital and has made small improvements, such as lifting his head and eating a little on his own but he's not out of the woods yet.

We are already thousands deep into his care and urgently need donations. Your generosity will provide the medical treatment and support he needs to recover from this horrific ordeal and have a chance at a better life. Thank you for your kindness and support.

Meet Doc! 💙🐾

Doc is a 6 year old Chihuahua and only weighs 7 lbs!

He is a lovable and happy boy who will bring endless joy to your life. With a huge smile and a wagging tail, he is always ready to brighten up your day. His favorite pastime is snuggling up under the covers with you, providing warmth and comfort throughout the night.

This playful pooch has a silly side too! He loves to entertain and will make you laugh with his goofy antics. Rub his tummy, and you'll be rewarded with an infectious grin that will melt your heart.

Treats are the way to Doc’s heart! He adores his treats and will gladly show off his dance moves to earn them!!

Not only is Doc a fantastic companion, but he also gets along well with other dogs and cats. So, if you already have furry friends at home, he will happily join your family and bring even more love and happiness to your household.

Imagine snuggling up with Doc, watching your favorite movie together, and feeling the warmth of his love. It's the perfect way to unwind and create precious memories.

More than 2 months‼️ and Egypt is still waiting for an application that’s a good fit for her! 💜

Her best home would be with an experienced dog owner and no 4 legged siblings in the home. Her adoption fee has been ✨ WAIVED ✨ so her adopter can invest those funds into continuing her training!

Egypt is a 4-5 year old, 50lb shepherd mix. She is a very happy, affectionate and loving girl once she warms up to the people she loves!

So, why has she been looking for a home for so long?
🐾 She needs to be the only pet in the home. She is fine seeing other dogs from afar on walks. ExFed Dog Training was able to successfully introduce Egypt to his dogs but for now the safest home for her would be solo 🐶
🐾 She is afraid around new people and can take some time to warm up. The keys to her heart are treats and fetch. She LOVES fetch! Having visitors? Egypt is great in her crate or will stay in a “place” command until released.

Not a single application for this sweet boy! 🥺 Toby is about 1 year old, 42lbs and his adoption fee has been 🌈 WAIVED 🌈 for the month of June (along with a few other of our large adult pups).

Here’s what his foster mom has to say about him:

Toby is the smartest dog I've ever met! He has all of his basic commands 100% of the time, and some special ones about 50%. He can sit, stay, down, wait, comes when called. He's working on roll over and spin. He also waits patiently to be released when you put his food down. He loves doing food puzzles and using a snuffle mat! Upon meeting new people, he is a bit nervous, but after a few treats, he is everyone's friend!

He loves to play fetch and run around in the yard, but also to nuzzle in and snuggle on the couch! Bath time is not his favorite but he does tolerate it. Toby will need a home where he is the only pet as he becomes very attached to his human and wants to be the apple of your eye. That being said, Toby has done well with dogs OUTSIDE of the home. He would love a home that will keep him stimulated so he can use his Border Collie brain!

Toby is fully housetrained and will go to the back door when he needs to go out. He will bark for a few minutes in the crate but will then settle down.
