The lack of regulatory oversight of veterinary devices (such as Phovia - LED light and cromophore gel) makes it especially important that vets scrutinise the evidence before recommending and using them.
A veterinary medicine is authorised for marketing only after the regulator (the VMD in GB) has assessed the quality, efficacy and safety and decided that overall the benefits outweigh the risks. But for veterinary devices there is no regulatory body assessing the quality, efficacy and safety or making a benefit-risk judgement.
Veterinary Prescriber's latest independent review - Shedding light on Phovia - evaluates the evidence and scrutinises the promotional claims, cutting out the leg work for busy vets. This review has been added to the CPD library in the Virtual Veterinary Medicines Academy. Log in or subscribe
