** UPDATE 2: Miss Sadie Mae is settled in and enjoying her new family!! **
** UPDATE: Miss Sadie Mae has a new home pending! **
(thank you to everyone who shared or otherwise sent good thoughts her way!)
We have a wonderful SPECIAL NEEDS 5 year old Cardigan girl who would love to find her forever home!
Sadie came to us several months ago from a friend who was no longer able to meet her needs after back surgery. She is a fantastic, spayed 5 year old girl who unfortunately suffered a back injury while she was being boarded and her owner was out of town. They took her to the vet, but then to add insult to injury, she FELL out of a high crate when the vet tech was taking her out. Her prognosis of recovery immediately plummeted, but her owner felt like she deserved a chance so they went ahead with surgery.
After surgery, her owner was struggling to manage Sadie’s recovery along with her other dog and in her housing situation, so I offered to take her for rehab at my house. Unfortunately despite surgery, intensive PT, and acupuncture, Sadie has not recovered mobility and that is likely her new normal although she has made minor progress over time. Thankfully, she is a VERY sweet and happy girl in general, so her condition doesn’t really seem to get her down! She is a bright happy face who loves to play with stuffies, cuddle on the couch, and bark at dogs on TV. She gets along with other dogs (cats unknown), loves people, and is very tolerant of any “fuss” needed to manage her condition. She does have different needs than a mobile dog, but once we settled in to a routine it is not difficult. I actually think she would make a wonderful therapy dog! She has a wheel cart she is learning to use, and happily scoots around the house. If you feel like you might have room in your heart and home for this very special girl, contact us for more information.
