For Liberty County, GA residents, a sandbag distribution event is scheduled to help prepare for potential natural events. The distribution will occur at 1079 Bacontown Rd, Midway, starting at 9:00 a.m. on October 8th. Each household can collect up to 10 sandbags. Just so you know, residents are required to fill and load their own sandbags. It's a good practice to keep these sandbags for future use, as they can effectively manage floodwaters.

First Baptist Church Hinesville is hosting a hot meal giveaway tomorrow night (Thursday, October 3, 2024) from 6 PM until all meals are handed out. We hope to feed as many as possible. Don’t miss out! 🍽

DEBBY UPDATE: Sunday 8/4 8am. HISTORIC FLOODING likely for Southeast Georgia and South Carolina as the storm stalls over us. See the pink? That’s 20 inches of rain possible for areas of Chatham, Effingham, Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, even Bryan County. We’re even looking at a possible 25 inches of rainfall.
STAY HOME if possible - Everyone who lives in the WTOC viewing area needs to prepare for dangerous driving conditions on Tuesday or Wednesday. Roads will flood, and I mean major roads even highways; we saw it during Tropical Storm Bonnie in 2016.

No big changes in the 11pm Tropical Storm Debby Advisory. Heavy rain and flooding expected Monday through Wednesday and possibly Thursday. Isolated tornadoes possible Monday into early Wednesday.

Athens-Clarke County, we are heading your way! We are thrilled to announce our first Pet Community Clinic in Athens-Clarke County!

Our Go Fix Georgia Team will be heading to Pittard Park in Athens on Saturday, June 1st, between 9 AM to 1 PM. Pets will be offered free basic vaccines, microchips, flea treatments, pet food & supplies, and spay/neuter vouchers for after the event. Please email [email protected] for questions.

Please make note of the following restrictions:
🐾 Event is limited to Athens-Clarke County residents ONLY.
🐾 Limited to 3 pets per household and available to the first 200 dogs and cats. This is a first-come, first-serve event.
🐾 Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

🐕 Retired K9 Kona Emergency Vet Visit ‼️

Retired K9 Kona who recently made headlines across the nation with her story is now hospitalized due to a bacteria infection. Kona was dropped off at an animal shelter by her former handler for unknown reasons (not typical for handlers to do this) and adopted within 24 hours. We immediately made contact with the adopter, Kevin, and told him if Kona needed anything, we would be there for them.

Kona was enjoying her much deserved retirement life when all of a sudden Kevin noticed Kona’s leg swelling. He immediately rushed her to the vet where it was initially thought Kona had been bit by a snake. After being monitored and treated by great emergency vet staff, it has now been determined she has an infection and much more needs to be done to help Kona get back on her feet.

The estimated cost is $12,000-$15,000. We will be covering this 100%. Any contributions will be helping offset the cost. Kona could use as many thoughts and prayers and any shares to help spread the word.

Happy ! On March 13, 1942 the Army began training recruits for its newest program, the “K9 Corps." This marked the first time that dogs were officially named as a part of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Today we commemorate the service and sacrifices of military working dogs throughout history, including our very own Sgt. Stubby.
