WEEKLY UPDATE...The dog that was scheduled for spay this morning missed her appt at Animal Medical due to an unintended mix up by the foster. Luckily Surry Spay Neuter had a cancelation tomorrow and fit her in. However the spay will cost me an additional $100 than what I would have paid at Animal Medical. However, I am very grateful to Surry Spay Neuter because Daisy is adopted and can go to het new home after she is spayed.

After this past Thursday 4 of the 9 dogs that belonged to my friend and fellow rescuer Melanie Forro Morrison Melanie Morrison have been fixed. We have 5 more to go. Melanie passed away in March unexpected before she had a chance to get these 9 dogs settled in and vetted. I took them in to honor my friend. She would have done the same for me!

So, I need help. Starting this month and through the end of July we have spay neuter appts each week for Melanie's 9 dogs I took when she passed away. They will be fixed at Animal Medical Services in Mt.Airy. If you haven't had a chance to honor Melanie, here is an opportunity. We would much appreciate it.

My rescue has closed intake due to no adoptions. I am closing for good. I just can't do it anymore. I will continue to take care and support all the rescues we have in our care. I have more than done my share over the years...and mainly all by myself..so I absolutely have no regrets!

We have these sweet babies for adoption. They are 8 weeks old. They are a mix. Mom to me looks like a pointer lab mix. Regardless these babies all have been spoiled silly by their foster family. They have fostered Mom and babies from the time the pups were around 2 weeks old. We pulled them from a shelter where they would have been euthanized for space.

We require a prescreen application to adopt.

We can transport north. We have a cost effective transporter who delivers every 2 weeks to our many northern delivery points.

If you wanted to help with the 9 dogs I took in of Melanie Morrison's but you haven't had a chance....here is your opportunity! They all have upcoming spay neuter appts.

Here is a brief summary. In March my friend Melanie passed away unexpected. She was the founder of a great rescue in our area called Carolina Canine Rescue. For those who did not know her, she was wheel chair bound due to an accident years prior. She never once let that slow her down. She single handed saved hundreds if not thousands of little souls in our community. She also started the first low cost spay neuter program for our area. That included transport to and from the out of town clinic for the citizens of our area. Her work with the animals is what she enjoyed. She confided in me many times that rescue gave her purpose.

When she passed away my rescue took in 9 little dogs that she had committed to helping prior. She was trying to help an elderly lady who was In bad health. The elderly lady needed to place her dogs in order to move to Florida so her sister could look after her. She really had no business living alone. She couldn't walk 3 ft without stopping because she couldn't breathe.

All the dogs had never been to the vet a day in their life. We took all 9 to the vet. They all received their dhpp Vax, bordetella Vax, heartworm/lyme test, they were microchipped and each given a 3 month Bravecto and Interceptor heartworm chew. One of the little dogs tested positive for Lyme Disease and we treated him for that. That was an expensive endeavor.

A few weeks ago Sunny(one of the males) escaped out of our foster's fence. He got hit by a car. He spent a week at the vet. He is under 8 weeks of crate meds to see If he can get use of his hind legs. As of now he can't use them. We will do everything in our power to take care of him. That was a huge expense that we had to deal with. I might add the foster was so upset. It was not her fault, it could happen to any of us!

So, I need help. Starting this month and through the end of July we have spay neuter appts each week for Melanie's dogs. They will be fixed at Animal Medical Services in Mt.Airy. If you haven't had a chance to honor Melanie, here is an opportunity. We would much appreciate it.

Oh ...I wanted to to update on the spay neuter funds I raised for my Birthday this year. We have gotten around 12 dogs spayed and neutered and that many cats as well...all done locally! This was possible due to the gifts for my Birthday and one big gift of $1,600 from a friend who wishes to remain anonymous. She stated she did not do it for recognition. She did it because she wanted to help. We appreciate our dear friend so much! All those funds were exhausted ALL on surgeries. Locally I have to pay much more. However, we still have a big spay neuter transport booked for Oct. We will be taking a van load to the clinic in TN. I will be doing yardsales the rest of the summer to put money toward that.

A few people missed my announcement evidently! WE ARE FULL! WE CANNOT TAKE YOUR DOG, PUPPIES,CATS,KITTENS! So do not ask! I don't care who I p**s of. Until you can help me pay my $300 plus PER WEEK rescue food bill or pay my crazy ass vet bills or foster do not ask me to take anything! I can't do it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to concentrate on what rescues we have! Adoptions are non existent and I have been busting my ass to take care of everyone!

Numbers for the Surry County Shelter!

I read something today that is so true..

We are facing a shelter crisis all over the US.

The single most important thing we need to come to terms with is this:

This is not a "shelter problem."

This is a community problem.

They are being surrendered and abandoned faster than we can save them.

They are being bred faster than we can save them.

They are being given up on faster than we can save them.

If 20 dogs are pulled to rescue, 40 more take their place that same week.

There is a point where we can no longer keep up with the demand from the public. We have far exceeded that.

These dogs all had families. They had homes. And in so many cases, whatever that was, whatever that looked like, was so much better than the life the endure at an animal shelter.

And it may be easy to forget, to go about our days because there are so many things we struggle with in our own lives every day.

But today I ask you. I beg you. Please think about theirs.

Please think about their faces as they watch a life go by behind a kennel door with hope.

Please think about the confusion of losing their home and the life they had, everything they knew, not knowing the odds stacked against them.

Please think about their final walk to a euthanasia room. Their final breath. And how quickly they are forgotten.

Over 390,000 dogs every year. Every one had a name. Every one deserves at least a chance.

Shelters are not dumping grounds. They are not redemption for impulsive decisions or a lack of effort. They exist to support their communities.
But communities need to support their local shelters too.

We can all do our part, and it starts at home.

Public service announcement for Save A Mutt Kennel!

I have closed intake. So don't ask me to take dogs, puppies, cats or kittens unless you are willing to foster them for us! I absolutely mean what I say!

This will be a long term thing, maybe for good! I am going to concentrate on taking care of the "MANY" animals we already have in rescue.

Nothing is being adopted and we are drowning! I can't do anymore than I already do. I am tired!
