KuneKune (pronounced "cooney cooney") are known for their sweet and docile temperament who originate from New Zealand. They were kept by the Maori people and also known as the "Maori Pig". They don't need to be "tamed" or"socialized" as they are naturally friendly and thrive on human companionship as well as other species of animals. Also, they tend not to roam and are easy on fencing. Kunes are a

wattled breed, if you notice in my pictures some of the piglets have fleshy like things hanging below the jaw. Wattles are preferred in the breed but many purebreds do not have them or only have one. They are a small pig and can range from 75 pounds-200 pounds making them good for just about any size farm. Boars are heavier being that they develop "armor" and closer to the 200 pound range. One of the KuneKunes best attributes is that they have the ability to fatten on grass alone. Their short upturned snouts make them less prone to root and graze instead. They are becoming very popular for great their meat quality/taste and being perfectly marbled. The best part, these pigs serve many purposes! They fit great in many different environments such as, hobby farms, orchards, therapy animals, petting zoos, heritage hog for pastured pork, and of course breeding/show stock and pets.
